'Pick Up The Pieces' was the first coffee shop we stopped at, and we came back here a few times... probably because it was right underneath our hostel, but also because its quite quaint, and pretty cheap in comparison with a few of the others we visited... Its got a fussball table downstairs too, although its not in great condition. Single joints cost about 4 Euros, and you can buy weed (1.5 - 3 grams) for 14 Euros.

Of course Amsterdam is famous for their coffeeshops. I was in Amsterdam over Thanksgiving week 2005 for the cannabis cup. I went to about 18 different coffe shops and every one was different. One of my Favorite was the Grey Area (Oude Lelistraat 2). it is the only coffee shop owned by Americans and while it is quite small the owners are GREAT! As I said I went to many shops, so if you have any questions about which ones had the best stuff please email me.

I found a tool with POI's for TomTom. It contains alle dutch coffeeshops. I'm using it now for a couple of weeks and ik works very nice. I come at shops which I otherwise had never discovered. It's worth it's money. CHeck it out: http://www.bluewhitearmy.com

Freeworld is a coffee shop / internet cafe, but a bigger emphasis on coffee shop. One budtender was far cooler than the other, but its a cool place to just come, grab either a joint or a bag (1.3 grams of great product cost only 12 Euros) and relax.
The vibe is awesome with cool music and tons of alien decorations. If you can, run to the back right away where they have comfortable couch-type things, and try the coffee. Its great!
Definately one of the coolest and most laid back coffee shops I've seen.

There are a plethora of awesome coffeeshops to chill out at and Double Reggae is one of them. I personally love the front of this bar and the no under 18 sign. One can also buy practically any type of indica or sativa that you can think of in the city of Amsterdam. Much of their stuff comes in a variety of forms and is available and in a variety of potencies so the Amsterdam traveller can experience that unique high normally unavailable in other places of the world. Somehow these coffeeshops have the ability to get stuff from all around the world as well as selling their own stuff. Each coffeeshop sets up a unique atmosphere. The Double Reggae has that bar type atmosphere with Bob Marley on the speakers. The Blues Brothers is nothing special but I had to check it out. The Grasshopper looks cool at night with all those green neon lights. Abraxas has that cool vibe feel to it and Internet surfing at Pink Floyd Umma Gumma has never been so good. Who knew surfing the web could be so fun. So for a good time come to Amsterdam!

If you smoke regularly you will not be impressed with the weed. Visited many different coffeshops including the famous Grey area all with the same result little or no buzz. Do not let this be a detterent if thats what your going there for because the hash is dynamite. My best luck was at Kadinsky's. Good product friendly service. There are a couple of different locations. Where are they? I don't know. Just like everything else in Amsterdam just keep walking you'll run into it. Amsterdam is a fun place. I've been there twice and planning on returning if the Euro ever goes down. Damn Republicans

If in AMS you absolutley have to visit Smits Koffee haus across from the train station. The most tasty Irish coffee I have ever had. Take it outside by the canal sip away while you watch the world go by. Honest I wish I were there now!

This is the main reason I came to this lovely place. The "Coffeeshops" Yes, it is TRUE!!! you can smoke in a "coffeeshop" and not be freaked out (yeah! you will be at first because your just not use to it and its just weird). It's simple just go in ask for a menu and select your "weed" LOL and your done. You can smoke it there or take it with you, you are allowed to carry up to 5 grams per person. They alsi offer Hash and Spacecakes even pre-rolled.
The best advise is..... Don't go there just for the weed, I mean buy something else, like a drink or even coffee if your a coffee head and a pot head.
Alot of shops don't like when you come in with drinks from outside so just have a little respect.

The infamous Green House is a good place to "chill". The front bar is serving soft drinks and beers...no alcohol drinks but that does not seem to hurt the business for any bit. The bar at the back is serving..."you know what" for you to chill in the Dutch way :p Well, the place is cozy, service is decent...people there are....very laid back ;)
