Once an old warehouse, this museum is situated in the heart of the Red Light District.Set on three floors there are various exhibits of Erotica such as paintings, photos, sculptures, waxworks and animation.A extensive display on the Red Light District, old condom machines,John Lennon's lithographs and a section on bondage are just a few of the highlights of the museum.A small gift shop on the bottom floor sells erotic memorabilia as well as sex toys and postcards. In my opinion a lot better and cheaper than the sex museum with much more to see.

    Entry is 4 Euros(Over 18's only)
Open Sun till Thu 11am till 1am,Fri and Sat 11am till 2am.

If you are visiting Amsterdam and have spare 5 Euro you should go and see Erotic Museum. It is very interesting place, where some can laugh, some can blush, some.....hmmm....get new ideas.... As it is museum you have an opportunity to see really old, historical artefacts. Some gadgets can suprise you:)) The museum is placed in an old building in a center of the city in red light district. To look around, you need to go through diverse rooms placed on three floors, where you can see pictures, old notices, statues, wax figures, machines, movies, and other artwork elements of this erotic exhibition. By all means I really recomend this place.
There is also small shop with erotic souvenirs.

Similar museum is also placed in Copenhagen, but I have never seen it...

    Waste of Money

    by slnarayanan83 Written May 8, 2007

This museum doesn't have much collections and a mere waste of money. It costs you a 5 Euro entry with 4 small floors and very little collection. You can better go to the Sex Museum in the Damrak road which costs 3 Euros for a big museum with lot of good collections. If you are on budget, skip this.

If you think you have heard about it, its worth popping in. Though not as big as the popularity make it seem, you can spend a few hours inside without knowing it. and actually I think its worth a visit. And of course don't forget your camera!

Amsterdam has two sexy museums: the Erotic Museum and the Sex Museum, no wonder, both in the red light district, actually quite close to each other.
No trip to Amsterdam is complete without an "erotic tour" whatever it means for you :-)

What possessed us to go here I have no idea, but being in Amsterdam I guess we had to. The place was the epitomy of tackiness, and attempted to chart the history of sex and erotica, through photo exhibits, models and video. Very few elements were interesting, perhaps the most so was the old memorabelia, which was in a sense a demonstration of how much more liberated we have become. What was once taboo, is now everyday place. One particularly surreal moment was when I wandered in to a section where there were various photographs of nocternal partners urinating on eachother. As if this wasn't weird enough, I stood back and realised that I was standing next to a perfectly respectable looking business woman taking notes!!!

It represents the emancipation of the "sexual
    cognizance"during the last century....
Little but emblematic; They could spare us the
erotic-line of the last floor and the video cabinets
    (you can imagine their use!)...

It's Amsterdam. You are practically *required* to visit a sex museum or two.

The funny thing is, if these were located anywhere else, you'd only see perverts going in, right? In Amsterdam you'll find giggling highschool girls, grandmas, silly boys and businessmen.

A very comfortable environment for a sex museum, I'd say!
