    Talking about talking about.

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." -Hunter S. Thompson

    Hot Damn Amsterdam !

Every November Amsterdam in conjunction with High Times holds it’s annual Cannabis Cup Convention for a week, (November 21 - 25, 2004) when 10,000 pot smoken enthusiasts converge on Amsterdam to partake in the festival environment of this convention. I and two friends judged The Cup in 2002 and barley made it out without an iron lung. There was no amount of weed that would ever be too good or too much and we strutted around months before hand telling everyone who cool we were. How very wrong were we.

To requst a package go to http://europe-your-way.com/freequote.php, in the details say you want Cannabis Cup Packages

    Amsterdam Gay Pride Day

    by isolina_it Written Apr 4, 2003

Yearly (gay pride) canal parade, with a lot of decorated boats. This is held around the end of July, beginning of August and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. For the seventh time the extravagant Canal Parade will be held during Amsterdam Pride 2002.
With 250.000 spectators this event was the fourth largest in 2001 in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Gay Pride is nominated for the Prize of the best City Promotion of The Netherlands.

Only Queensday (April 30) and the Cultural 'Uitmarkt/Sail' (end of August) attract more people. Amsterdam Pride has been the largest gay event in the Netherlands for seven years.

If you want to be a spectator of the Canal Parade we suggest you find a spot somewhere along the Prinsengracht or Amstel in the old city of Amsterdam. Also at the Stopera a lot of people are watching the boats come by. Many enjoy the parade standing on a bridge over the Prinsengracht.

    Kwakoe Festival

    by isolina_it Written Apr 4, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Soccer, fun, laughter, sun, new experiences and foods, the best bbq'd chicken in the northern hemisphere, beer, more food, dancing and relaxation. A truly memorable experience.

Once a year, Amsterdam is treated to the greatest and most colourful festival around. What makes this festival so unique is that it's organised by and for the many migrant cultures of Amsterdam. The majority of the people live in the infamous "Bijlmer", which is where the white folk normally don't dare come after dark because of the drugs problem.

This festival gives the local community the opportunity to firstly hangout with old friends, family and other peopleof the same nationality. Secondly they can present their culture and heritage in a positive attitude, to all those willing to listen and learn.
Big mama's frying food, singing along with the Bob marley on the radio. Old black dudes with hair white as snow, sitting around a table sipping on 1 litre bottles of Djogo beer, cigar dangling out their mouths, laughing their asses off and just chilling. African style. The majority come from Suriname, which is a former colony of the netherlands on the north east coast of South America. Primarily of african descent but also a large community of suriname-hindoestanis of asian descent. Other countries include e.g. ghana, algeria, nigeria, and other african countries. Theres tons of booths that sell tradional homemade food, drinks and clothing and other assorted ***.
When the Kwakoe festival first started, it was basically just a simple soccer tournament. The different nationalties of the Bijlmer would make teams and then play against each other. Now it's a full-on social event. However the soccer is still the main item. The soccer field is in the centre of the festival area and all other stands etc. are in a circle around the field. Nowadays even amateur soccer teams fly from southamerica and africa to partake in these friendly matches.

    New Years Eve

by frantz Written Oct 8, 2002

When you have a change, try to come here forNew Years Eve.
Not only are there a lot of organized parties all over the place but a lot of pubs etc. stay open and there is a good atmosphere everywhere. If you arrived a few day before try to find out from the locals the best place to be.Most Dutch people go to private parties which start mostly about 10 at night. But the thing is come midnight then the party really starts because everybody starts lichting fireworks. You see streets and the sky alight with the most incredible colours and the noise, unbelieveble. After about a hour most people (local) start going out and then start to party. Try at least once in your lifetime to come here at New Years Eve. That's one of the things i missed most when i lived outside The Netherlands.

St. Nicholas, Christmas and New Year’s in Amsterdam
From the entry of St Nicholas on 19 November, the shopping streets are decorated with festive lights, as are the bridges across the canals and many historic buildings. The city will be dipped in the Christmas spirit from 6 December onwards, including the ice skating rink on the Leidseplein and the traditional Christmas tree market on the Singel between Muntplein and Koningsplein. During the winter months, you will be able to visit many special exhibitions and events in Amsterdam.

    Ice skating in Amsterdam
    Oct 1 '06-Mar 18 '07
We won't be sure of icy weather in Amsterdam and picturesque frozen canals but we can skate nonetheless on artificial skating rinks. Museumplein ice rink & Skating rink in Leidseplein.

    Nostalgic Christmas tram ride.
17, 23 and 24 Dec '06 : Tickets can be reserved at € 10 each via e-mail: oliebol@museumtram.nl, specifying your name, address, which journey you want to book and the number of tickets.

    World Christmas Circus
Dec 22 '06-Jan 7 '07 : Humour, excitement, beauty, sensation and illusions: these are the mottos of the coming World Christmas Circus in the Royal Theatre Carré, which will again be transformed into the world's most beautiful circus palace. Amstel 115-125.

    Rembrandt The Musical
Until Feb, 2007: In the museum, his paintings bring you closer to his work, but in Rembrandt the Musical, you step into the master’s life.

    OUR FAMOUS PRINSENGRACHTCONCERT....

    PRINSENGRACHTCONCERT AMSTERDAM

This most exciting event takes place in Amsterdam, every year....

A grandiose happening for those who can be there or are there ath that moment but....we all can enjoy what happens there via television: it will be a live broadcast......

As each year there will be a PONTON in the CANAL in front of the HOTEL PULITZER where the MUSICIANS will play.....surrounded by thousands of people who will watch and enjoy hanging out of their windows, dreaming on their boats in the canal, in trees and lanternpoles, on roofs and benches: in short a very enthousiastic crowd will be there under the very green trees, with hampers, a bottle of champagne or wine, young and old....to listen to the musci.

This year was the 22nd time this event took place.

Brother and sister GIL & ORLI SHAHAM, violin and piano, played a number of BRAHMS' works and they were great!!

There were also a number of singers, who sang their arias and duets.......

Every musician is warmly welcomed by the audience......

I would say: WHENEVER you plan visiting AMSTERDAM, try to be there at the time of the PRINSENGRACHTCONCERT: you will never forget the music and the atmosphere: wouldn't that be the MOST PRECIOUS souvenirs??

Oh, before I forget: it takes place during the evening so the lights add so much to the atmosphere as does the soft evening breeze and the movement of the water in the canals....

Gregory and Craig from the USA wrote in the guestbook of Dine with the Dutch:

I just wanted to send you a note of thanks. We're back in the US and had a wonderful time visiting Amsterdam & The Netherlands. Our dinner with Hans & Marreke was one of the highlights of our trip!! They are a wonderful couple, so friendly, warm & hospitable. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we are advising all friends to be part of this wonderful program that you have started & have given your website to any & all who express an interest in visiting Amsterdam. This unique program does indeed give the visitor an entirely different perspective of the country they are visiting. Kudos to you and all of your host families. I'm sure I will be returning to Amsterdam and will once again contact you. In fact, Hans & Marreke were so wonderful I would love to dine with them again, as well as try another host family. Thank you once again for a truly wonderful and unique part of my ! vacation to Amsterdam. Wishing you much success in the future!!!

Flowerparade. If you think of tulips, than you think of Holland. Holland is a massiver 'producer' of flowers and yes, we export millions of them.
One in a year a parade of flowers will cross the town.
Every year cars and trucks will be changed with thousands of flowers. Each year the parade is in a different subject.
If you like flowers and you are on that day in Amsterdam, this is a must see.

In August the new cultural season will be opened with the ”Prinsengrachtconcert”, and “de Parade” will take care of theatre, dance and music at the “Martin Luther Kingpark”.
