    Are we in London?

    by Typ88 Written Apr 30, 2005

A big surprise to some tourists is, that Madame Tussaud's is not only existing in London, but also in other cities - like Amsterdam, for example.

With a regular entrance fee of 23 Euros, one is mostly thinking twice, if the museum of wax figures will be worth it... In my opinion it is!!!

After passing the cashpoints, they take a picture of James Bond Pierce Brosnan and yourself (you receive this picture for free in the souvenir shop at the exit!!).

In a little room, the history of Amsterdam is told, which is made really nice. Also Amsterdam had a scary history...

SCREAM!!! For about 5 minutes (probably it was just one minute, but it felt like hours), they're chasing you thorugh a cabinet of wax figures and real humans - screaming, and scaring the visitors. I mean, I am a guy - but I was so scared that I screamed, too... ;-)

During the relaxing part, many many celebrities can be seen. Some look deceiving authentic, others not that much... But it's a lot of fun to take a picture with Kylie Minogue...

  • Scary.............................

Most of the reviews of Madame T's have made it sound a little boring. There is, of course the usual wax celebrities to pose with, including such comesy classics as Bush, Blair and M.Jackson. However, there is another side to this museum. There is an exhibition called the 'scream' which I assumed would be a bit like the scary bit of the one in London. It is not, it is the first thing like that to scare me since I was a kid! Me and my partner are 25 and 26 and we were terrified!! I won't tell you what its like and spoil it for you, go and see it!!! Discounts are availible for students from any country too!

    Bit of an over-priced disappointment

    by jss1018 Updated Dec 28, 2004
    Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

We went here because it's located right on Dam Square where we stayed, plus we had never been to one of the Tussauds museums before. It was the only thing from the entire trip we were disappointed with. And naturally the only thing totally made for tourists that has virtually nothing to do with the beauty and history of the city.

Over-priced, and not nearly as extensive a collection of figures as we had imagined or that one would think judging from the size of the building. Although a few of the wax figures were startlingly realistic, far too many were comically off the mark on their appearance.

I wouldn't really recommend it unless you just want to have the experience of going to a Madame Tussauds. After all, there aren't very many of them in the world.

Have your ever imagine taking picture with Marilyn Monroe, a Dutch celebrity or prominent historical figures like Rembrandt? Come here and you can post with them to have such historical moment. Also you will meet Claas Janszoon, the world’s largest animatronic wax figure at 5metres tall.

Madame Tussuad's Wax Museum is located in the center of Amsterdam. Housed in a very large building, it occupies four floors. An entire section is devoted to Dutch History, as well as to the history of Amsterdam. Many European celebrities, sports figures, artists and Royalty are on display there

Amsterdam?s Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) was built in the late 14th century when Oude Kerk became too small for the city. The Nieuwe Kerk is city?s second parish church. It was destroyed by fire and built again for several times during its existence. The actual church dates from 1650. All Dutch Monarchs are coronate here, from 1814 onwards. Nowadays this beautiful church also houses exhibitions, concerts and conferences.

The church is worth a visit inside, since its interior is very beautiful with amazing glass painting and magnificent organ. The church is open every day from 10 am to 6pm.

The welcoming and introduction into Madame Toussaud really impressed me. I called this giant "Onse Jan", because he somehow reminds me of Jan van Riebeeck who landed in Cape Town many moons ago in 165?.

The prominent presence of Madam Tussaud on the Dam

On the Dam-square the Wax-museum of Madam Tussaud deserves some extra attention. In here there is a lot of attention for Dutch history and present fame. There is a section explaning about the becoming of The Netherlands and you can meet the Dutch painters in person. Furthermore Dutch royalty and politicians as well as famous persons from television or music can be seen (though many of you foreigners now are seeking long long time to come up with Jean Claude Vandamme, who actually is a Belgian!) Madam Tussaud is definately interesting to visit on a rainy day.

In Dam Square you'll also find Madame Tussaud's Museum. This Museum depicts personalities in wax, same as the one in London. It also shows how was Amsterdam a few centuries ago and how it might be in the future. I didn't visit, since this isn't my favourite kind of Museum and as i only had some hours in Amsterdam i thought i should visit other places than Wax Museum... Anyway for those interested in wax figures i leave this info here.

    Madame Tussauds

The Madame Tussauds Scenerama is located above the big clothing shop Peek & Cloppenburg.

Inside you can learn more about the Amsterdam history. You can also see a big Jan Klaassen.

Unfortunately, it was closed for restorations when we visited Amsterdam.

    Madame Tussauds Scenerama

The wax museum of Amsterdam is slightly smaller than the one in London. However its still nice to see how all the was statues are made. There is so much detail to all of them. There are some very nice settings. You can have your picture taken with for example Arnold Schwarzenegger.
