Standing in front of the Royal Palace, the Central Post Office wass built in 1908 in the Dutch Reinasance style.
Now the building hosts the biggest department store in Amsterdam - The Magna Plaza
The building is a pretentious neo-Gothic building of brick and white stone from the turn of the last century. Originally it was the central post office but it is now an elegant shopping centre where the central stair well, surrounded by arcaded balconies, is worth seeing.
This building is actually a shopping centre (The Magna Plaza)! I couldn't believe it when I saw how fancy it was. Even the view from the ladies toilet is amazing! Well for a public loo anyway! :) It was originally a post office building
After visiting Dam Square, walk through the street that stands between Royal Palace and Nieuwe Kerk. That will lead you to Magna Plaza (Old Post Office), an amazing building that was formerly a Post Office and is nowadays a shopping centre. This was Amsterdam's first shopping centre in 1990. Whether you intend to do some shopping or are just walking around take some time to observe Magna Plaza since building is beautiful and worth it.
Magna Plaza is open every day except holidays:
> Sunday: noon to 7pm
> Monday: 11am to 7pm
> Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: 10am to 7pm
> Thursday: 10am to 9pm
Magna Plaza is a Grand orange & white facade built in 195-99 by dutch government architect CH Peters. The main post office & remaining complex has been converted now into a modern shopping mall. Check out hte columned galleries and the many clothing shops in this multi storey building.
A lovely old building (used to be a post office). Inside there are a lot of (expensive) shops but even if you don't buy anything you have to have a look because of the lovely architecture! Or have a drink and a lovely sandwich in Ovidius, the 3 storey cafe at the corner.
Shopping in Amsterdam is a lot of fun, especially because there is such a large variety in shops: exclusive brands, skate shops, tourists shops, record stores, book stores and so on. Most of the stores are located in the Kalverstraat. Luxury items can be found in Magna Plaza.
The Magna Plaza is one of the largest shopping plaza in Europe. The Plaza has an unlimited shopping stores. It would take you all day to shop at every department stores. It a dream mall for those mall shopping people.
This is the coolest looking shopping mall ever!! Most of the malls I go to are in these big, boring, drab looking buildings but I absolutely love the Magna Plaza. Apparently this was a former post office dating back to 1899 and it was converted to a shopping mall in 1990. Definitely worth a look I think.
Do some shopping in Magna Plaza.
This four storeyed shopping center is the most beautiful one in Amsterdam. I really like the record shop in the basement of the building. The collection of CD's is very huge and you always can find something of your choice.
