I didnt feel gr8...may be I went with much expectation after hearing from many channels? Its ok to see all the old photgraphs dated begining of 20th century!!! Anyway the enterance is only EUR 3, so no issues...if some on asks...then you can say 'I have been there' :)
Dont go to Amsterdams Sex museum if very graphic and painful images will ruin your day.
On second thought, just avoid the bondage section, which has painful screams playing on speakers. ahhhhrrghh!
Under the right influence it can be riot...
Considering i haven't ever been to a sex museum before, i was a bit unsure as to what the content of the museum was going to consist of. Well, it consists of a bit of everything i guess - Some pretty cool exhibits, a lot about the history of sex, and some famous lovers... LOTS of pictures too. You got sections on S&M, historic figures (e.g Mata Hari), and even Animal sex. For only 3Euros though, definitely better than the erotic museum in the Red light district.
While we were waiting to check in, we stopped by the Sex Museum in Centrum. The admission wasn't very expensive (about 3 Euros), and it is a good diversion. At first, I thought it was a little bit cheesy, and it maybe is, but the way it portrays different aspects of sex through historical and multi-cultural presentations is nevertheless interesting. Maybe I wasnt exactly blown away by anything, but I still liked it for what it did have.
I found the animatronic things cool, and just be sure to watch out for that sailor...he'll get you.
It's not a MUST-SEE, but stop by if you're waiting on something or you really just want something to do.
There are 2 sex museums present in Amsterdam. One is named as 'Sex Museum' and the other as 'Erotisch Museum'. Sex museum is present on the entrance to Damrak which is straight opposite to the Central Station where as the Erotisch Museum is present inside the Red Light District. I suggest you to go to the first one and skip the second one. Second one does not have anything special when compared to first one except the Cartoon shows. Entrance to Sex Museum costs 3 Euros and it is worth the money. Entrance to Erotic Museum costs 5 Euros and I felt bad that I have wasted my money. They advertise as 5 floors where as the collections are present in 4 small floors and very less in number and not so impressive art or sculptures.
I suppose if you come to Amsterdam and not visiting the Sex Museum, your trip is not a complete ;p Well, for someone who had already been to the sex museum in Paris, I didn't think it would be much worth of a visit...I was wrong. Though both are the same in many areas like the themes...collectibles from different cultures and times...but the one in Amsterdam carries a humor side far better than in Paris. Like pictured here is a guy flashing his "thingy"...there are other tricks along the whole musems...like a booth of sex telephone...funny. It's worth a laugh.
just opposit to the rly station at the city centre is the Sex museum. This is an amazing musem, funfilled and with some great collections. My favourite is the photographer taking the snap of a model. It is crowded most of the days, but yeah a nice place to walk around.
You will also find here manuscripts and drawings ranging from the Kama Sutra to twentieth-century comics and a vast film and photographic library proffering every sexual predilection and preference.
Open: 10:00 am to 11:30 pm Daily
There are lots of pictures as you can imagine. Just go and have a look; it'll give you ideas how sex has been represented through the years. You can even see how condoms have evolved! Very good historical review!
If you have an hour or so to kill, the sex museum is a perfect pace to go to. The museum opened its door in 1985. The museum is open daily from 10am to 11.30pm and it only costs 2.50 EURO. At first I was only going there with friends for friends. I was actually amazed at its collection about sex more than 100 years ago. You can see it through paintings, photos, and equipments. Anything that you can or cannot image is there.
When you find all the museums having a long queue of people or you want to have a very eye-opener education in Amsterdam, then visit the Sex Museum, which is next to a Pizza Parlour (I don't know whether it's still there cause this visit was made 10 years ago!).
As you go into the museum, you would be intrigued and see lots of artistic, nude, pornographic pictures, scupltures and furniture depicting male and female organs, and meet famous sex-symbol manequinn like Marilyn Manroe (by the way, she's at the top floor and you can make her skirt goes up by pressing the button on your left i.e. with your back towards her, which will emit hot air underneath her that will blow her skirt upwards - giving you the infamous image of her doing that same thing many years ago; incidentally, this action made her a sex symbol known to all the ladies and men even up till today).
Anyway, the toilet is all blue in colour with blue lighting, giving you a 'blue' feeling - whatever 'blue' you are going through, I can assure you that you only ought to do one thing in the toilet i.e. to answer to nature's call, whatever it can be! He he...
