Vondelpark in summer is fantastic. You can just sit and watch people, bring your own picknick, go roller blading or whatever you fancy. In summer, you will find loads of performances like concerts, choires, salsa dancing etcetera. Every Sunday there is an open air theatre performance (see also the festival-travelogue).
    Very relaxed atmosphere.

A'Dam has a great music scene, and in the summer, you can hear free music at the Vondelpark's open air theater-----I heard jazz, classical and a lovely girl named Nynke Laverman who was singing a kind of a Fado Portuguese style, who graciously signed autographed CDs after the show!
Check out Timeout or other local arts guides for specifics.....
The Vondelpark was first opened in 1865.....

    parrots

For some reasons, there are large Green Parrots flitting around the large Vondelpark all thru the year and are extremely fun to watch---also you can see herons, ducks and other water birds and many other species throughout this wonderful green space.

The largest park of the city, close to the Leidseplein and the big museums and by far the most popular with visitors and locals alike, especially during summer and on sunny winterdays. The park is always alive with skaters, joggers and all sorts of street performers. In the summer the Vondelpark open air theater stages regular performances. There are several bars in the park, all of course with their own outside terrace, and Vertigo also offers good food at reasonable prices. All in all a very pleasant place to spend a lazy sunny afternoon.

Vondel park is a lovely park very close to Leidseplein and Museumplein.
A few minutes walking and you will find yourself in a quiet area , green , beautiful.

Vondel park was first named Nieuwe Park and was opened in 1865.
I walked around the park a few times while visiting Amsterdam - try to "get lost" in the park , there are lovely places.

    Great place to meet people.
The park has an open-air theater. Famous Dutch artists have performed here.
You can skate, ride a bike, walk, play guitar, or just lie down and listen and watch.
    Relax is the key-word.

    Vondelpark
The Vondelpark is Amsterdam's most famous park. It was designed and built around the year 1850.

The park is very popular with tourists who can enjoy the quit in the city, for people with little children (many playgrounds and animals), joggers, cyclists and skeelers.

On the Overtoom side one can find the Film museum, where you can watch 'the other' movies and can enjoy a nice breakfast in summer, outside.
In the high season the Music Theater gives many performances of local and international artists, free of charge! This gives the park it's special atmosphere. The well known Concertgebouworkest gives every year an 'open air' concert in the park, which attracts hundreds of people.
Oh, if you visit the park, don't be surprised by the many tropical birds -like grasshoppers and parrots- who live freely in the park!!

    VONDELPARK

At the Vondelpark, designed and lay out in 1850, you will find a magnificent piece of nature in the middle of the inner part of the town. The park reaches out from “het Leidseplein” till the “Amstelveenseweg”.
It is a beautiful place for a picnic, but also for a trip on your skeelers. During the summer there is always something going on, on stage ….
The main entrance is at “de Stadhouderskade”.

  • The best activity in Amsterdam...

The best activity in Amsterdam is to lie somewhere in a park to relax. The Dutch like that and they will not have anything against. It's a normal thing.
Second, you can rent a bike and take a ride. There are 550,000 bikes in Amsterdam.
If you choose a park, you'll see how the Dutch spend their free time.Speaking about bikes, you'll see special roads reserved just for bikes.

The Vondelpark is a great place to be! Especially in the summer. Every sunday afternoon there is a concert.(only in the summer time) Free entrance and always a good atmosphere. There is the Film museum where they show great old movies and the restaurant/cafe is very popular by Amsterdam people. It is always busy there.

Very Close to vondel park , few minutes walking from Leidseplein you will find Vondel Church.
Vondel Church is a lovely neo-gothic church built in 1873 by Architect P.J.H. Cuypers.
These days the church is not a religious place , it is open for marriage.

  • Birdwatching in a Park in Amsterdam

by huez Written Jun 25, 2008

Escape the crowded city and go birdwatching in the early hours of the day or midday.
There are some parks where the quality of birding is really good.
Vondelpark, Rembrandtpark and probaly the best is the Flevopark.

You will be amazed by the birdlife right in the middle of Amsterdam. A wide range of bird species are present in the park, for example Garden Warbler, Reed Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Nuthatch, Greenfinch, Blue Tit, Rose Ringed Parakeet, Blackcap, and Common Whitethroat.

There is the possibilty to hire a experienced bird guide, the give guided birding tours in the parks. We did and managed to see 30 ! species in 1 hour of birding.
I do not remember the website of the guides, but there name is FlevoBirdwatching

I walked through Vondelpark almost every day during the week I spent in Amsterdam. The scenery was pleasant, it was easy to stop by a museum or two (or more) - it was so relaxing, I got used to the constant mist/light rain (we visited at the end of March 2005). Vondelpark was a nice break from the more bustling city and/or tourist centers such as the Dam, Leidseplein, Anne Frank Huis, etc.

When the weather is nice, nothing is more fun than drinking beer in Vondelpark. Ride your bikes to a beergarden, take a seat, and enjoy the sun. There's a very good vibe, and everyone having so much fun, yes!

  • Vonder in Vondelpark

by suzee Written May 17, 2004

South of the city centre you'll find vondelpark, its a beautiful green space where you can hire bikes, watch the wildlife (saw a heron basking in the pond), sit, relax and look at all the weird and wonderful things around and admire the grand houses surrounding the park. A youth hostel is located north west of the park and its the perfect place to stay as its near museumplein and leidseplein.
