After being ripped off at the airport (for 100 USD I got 63 Euro), it was a great relief to find this small money exchange office in the centre of town. It is located on the big main street between the Central Station and Damhotel, Damrak nr.31 (next to a shop called Blokker). There I received 72,50 Euro for 100 USD. The claim not to charge any commission, and they kept to that! They are called Lorentz Change, great value for money!
Never xchange in an xchange shop!
Unique Suggestions:
Never use an xchange shop, you will pay to much for you euros!!
When you have to change money go to a bank.
Or even better, in the bigger department stores you can use foreign money without xtra cost.
Fun Alternatives:
a fun alternative?
use diamonds to pay with....
Any of the so called "commission free" money exchanges dotted around the central area, The Damrak in particular. They do not deliver what they promise. They give you a poor rate with inflated charges.
Unique Suggestions:
Dont change there.
Fun Alternatives:
At the rear of the Royal Palace on Dam Sq walk a few yards down the street that leads to Ann Franks House. On the left you will see The Post Office. They give a much better rate and very low commission charges. Just take a ticket and wait till your number shows. English is spoken by the tellers. When I changes 250 English Pounds recently I got an extra 55e from the post office , compared with what the Change kiosks were offering.!!!!
Please becareful when changing your money to Euro. We went to one place and they gave us .87 for one dollar and another gave us .97 so look around and ask befor changing some charge a changing fee also and dont tell you untill after they gave you the money.
Changing money at Schipol Airport is very expensive.
Unique Suggestions:
You're better off to use a credit card or see if you can get airport merchants to accept a different currency. I was surprised that one of the sandwich places there took both Canadian and US Dollars among others.
