I think every tourist to Amsterdam gets trapped in one of these! Very kitschy, but good for a laugh nonetheless. There are a number of these in front of souvenir shops around the city. Get to Amsterdam and get clogged!
Wooden Shoes are everywhere. The reality is that most of the wooden shoes you will find are not functional. If you shop around you might find a pair thats more reasonable. But think to yourself before you buy a full pair of shoes, what are you really going to do with them, then buy a miniture pair.
Fun Alternatives:
Take a trip to a wooden shoe factory, okay still a trap but at least you can see how they are made. Maybe buy a pair there, better than those cheasey tourist shops
Everyone feels they must have wooden shoes.
Keep your eyes open for the huge shoes around town that you can hop into for a picture.
Unique Suggestions:
If you really need them, try to buy from an artisian who still practices the craft instead of at the souvenier shop.
Tourist shops.... same trap as everywhere else in the world. But fun :)
Unique Suggestions:
Take a picture with the giant wooden shoe and feel like a real tourist!
Fun Alternatives:
I never bought souvenirs in Amsterdam so I can't tell you where there are the nicest. The nicest postcards, however, I found at the canal boat shop opposite the Rijksmuseum!
Planet Hollywood is an aweful establishment in Amsterdam. This place needs some serious management problems, the service is soo bad it is unbelieveable, not to mention the food.
Unique Suggestions:
Just go to the souviner shop and avoid the restuarant at all costs.
Fun Alternatives:
Hard Rock Cafe, excellent staff and serice. The food aint too bad either:))
Holland is home to wooden shoes, and almost all souvenir shops sell them. There are wooden shoes in all different sizes sitting outside some of these shops, chained up so they don't 'walk off' (sorry for the pun), and people actually line up to have their picture taken standing in these shoes. Why should I be any different?
The wooden Shoe THING!!!
This trap is located in the REGULIERSBREESTRAAT
Unique Suggestions:
Just sit down and be quiet
