Car & Parking, Amsterdam
Do not use a car to go to Amsterdam, you will have a very hard time to find parking space and if you are lucky enough to find one, it will cost you a lot. You better try to park your car in the outskirts and take the public transport. Take care, even in some outskirts you will have to pay for the parking. Never leave any valuables and preferrably leave the glove-compartment open to show nothing is hidden.
Since Amsterdam is so close to Belgium, we took a private car which is only 3 hours drive from. Train is also convenient to go and around Amsterdam, much relax and just some stops to it's next stations.
In Amsterdam it is very difficult to find a parking place for the car. And parking places are very expensive too. So the bicycle is the easiest way of transportation. Public transport like tram or bus are also very good in and around Amsterdam. Or most of the places to visit are in a walking distance.
If you do want to bring your car into downtown Amsterdam, park for instance at the Waterlooplein parking.
From A10 ring highway follow signs for S100, exit "centrum"; follow P signs.
If you must drive, don't.
But if you do, make sure your car is no bigger than this adorable little thing.
The best way to get from Amsterdam to Uithoorn by car (see my Uithoorn page): please consult the map. Bon voyage!
If you know someone who lives here drive...if not this can happen to you, the traffic was stuck here for 5 minutes without an accident, just everyone taking their own right of way.......
