KLM Airlines, Amsterdam
KLM is one of the major European airlines in a semi joint venture with Air France and a member of illustrious global alliance. Great expectations but will they be met in this particular case? First, due to some act of God the airplane arrives one and a half hour late at the initial boarding destination. Next, God gets involved again by throwing enough snow on the ground in order to wreak havoc on the tarmac and add more delay time due to “de-icing”. The flight is mostly non-eventful which seems to be a blessing these days till the approach at Amsterdam’s Schiphol. Then information starts to stream in and frighten passengers with missed flights and new itineraries. Some folks are English-language “deprived” which makes the role of the stewardesses even easier in brushing away any signs of resentment and insistence on favorable outcome. My humble persona’s next destination is not announced as affected so I continue snoozing when not translating for some “English-less” person. As a last moment favour to a stewardess with irresistible blue eyes, ideally matching the livery of KLM, I let myself be shoved into the hopeful embrace of “English-less” compatriots. Together, we make a dash to the gate in question and arrive on time to catch our plane. To my incredulity they, the followers pass through the scanner but not me, the leader. I am sent off to some wicket where “people who missed their flights” end up!? More anxiety piles up as the line-up stalls in the face of delay overload. My “number” lights up and the verdict is presented to me in the shape of two more flights so I can finish my journey on the same day albeit at quarter to midnight! When such a lunacy is rejected by me, the inquisitor across the desk says that this is what the computer said!? Ma’am, the computer does whatever the computer-literate person tells it to do, not the other way around. This logic does not seem to impress my inquisitor and she, coolly unfazed, continues convincingly with slight variation: This is what the system says”!? Then I had to demonstrate the winter of my discontent which had a profound effect on the official who finally started telling the computer what to do. I obtained hotel for the night and three free meals courtesy of KLM. Next day, at the boarding gate, I was summoned to the desk to be asked why I missed my flight to the stopover destination that I refused in the first place the day before!? More phone calls and new boarding pass has my hopes up and running to be stopped, in turn, by the heartless “computer-cum-system” again. Finally the autopilot of incompetence was manually overridden and I managed to board the plane. And all of this crap for just a quarter of the air miles assigned to this flight – I guess I am not “flying blue” ever again!
Leaving CDG behind and arriving at AMS schipol is like day and night. Warmth and friendliness and hospitality oozes out of the AMS crew while I was glad to leave behind the sullen AF lounge people to whom smiling is an effort
I am sitting at the AMS KLM lounge at schipol near the F gates .. the flights to NAmerica depart from the F gates and aI also remember being her on two other occasions when I flew to YVR and YYZ..
this lounge has to be one of the best in that it is very spacious and the food offered is good and this month they are featuring south american menus..
the glass of champers is not bad either
My flight from Bangkok to Amsterdam was with KLM Airlines. As it was an 11 hour flight, I thought that we would have individual Television sets, but this was not the case. You only had Televisions scattered throughout the Plane, which meant you had to watch that Movie! My flight back was the same. Food sometimes was Ok, and other times awful. Service varied from good to not the best as well. I was told by another "flyer" that they used to be a top Airline, but are no more, after my experience, I think this is true.
This was the first time I flew on KLM airlines. This was the only direct flight I could get at a reasonable price. We were able to take two bags of luggage and our carryons.
The service was great. I had no complaints. Their customer service was great. The alcohol free.
I have to say though that the food was probably the worst I have ever tasted. So you might want to bring your own food next time. Maybe some sandwiches from Guilianos deli. Anything would be better. Pack youself a lunch....some snacks .....anything.
From Manila, Philippines take the KLM Dutch Airlines direct flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The price of the economy class would be ranging from 750 Euro up to 2,318 Euro roundtrip depending on how long the would be the stay on Amsterdam. Schedule of flight is flexible depending on the KLM Dutch Airline company. Please check its website for further detail on purchaising the ticket reservations. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is situated very centrally in the Netherlands and is not far from Amsterdam. You can easily take a train or bus from here to the place where you are going to be staying. Of course, there are always plenty of taxis available as well. The Schiphol Travel Taxi fares (combined journey) are very reasonable. There are plenty of parking facilities but if you would prefer to have your own transport throughout your stay, then just go to one of the car rental companies on Schiphol Plaza.
FLY KLM TO GET HERE! Or use them to go somewhere else!
Why I like KLM:
• Always polite, friendly flight crews that seem to enjoy working with each other
• Fantastic booking website where you can search for flight 1 month at a glance!
• Great prices on long haul flights
• Free drinks! Just ask for more
• Comfortable planes
• Excellent in-flight entertainment (pictured)
• Good food (pictured)
You can join their Frequent Flyer Programme for free – it’s called Flying Blue. And you get to board the plane first – even if you have an economy ticket!
Great airline. Give them a Fly!
In visiting a country, I prefer on taking its national flag carrier. For Netherlands, it's KLM for 3 reasons: bonus miles on my World Perks, shopping at Schiphol, and flight schedules.
KLM leaves MNL in the evening and arrives in AMS in the morning. Returning, it leaves AMS in the evening and arrives in MNL in the evening (of the next day).
KLM used to fly from MNL-AMS-MNL via KUL. However, effective November 2004, it flies non-stop between the 2 cities five times a week.
KLM, The Dutch National Carrier has got close ties with America's Northwest Airline. Both of these airlines are partners in their 'Frequent Flyer' program. Most airlines offer frequent flyer deals that can earn you a free air ticket after flying a particular number of air miles with that airline. The bad thing about Frequent Flyer programs is that they tend to lock you into one airline.
Schiphol Airport is equiped with latest technology and E-Boarding is one of the facilities here which is available on very few airports. It allows people having just hand luggage to insert their tickets and get their boarding passes. You can also choose a window or an aisle seat.
Schiphol Airport is 18 Kms south - west of Amsterdam city. It is renowed for its Tax-Free Shopping and one of the civilised modern airport of the world. It is so busy that there are a lot of planes either takingoff or landing ever 10 mins or so here.
Schiphol Airport of Amsterdam is connected by nearly al the World's major airlines. It is easily reachable by rail from all points in Netherland in under 2.5 hours. There are many low cost airlines which connect Schiphol with other destinations in Europe. Easy Jet is the most famous of them. There are Many flights between London & Amsterdam from here.
I am so sorry to tell you that i am greatly disappointed with KLM Airline and their service. As i told you in the introduction that i was really excited to fly with KLM but my excitement ended when the plane started to make jumps and other dangerous movements. I know that it was raing outside but its very usual in Europe that it rains but it doesn't mean that the aircraft should shake and shiver whenver it rains !!! i accepted it when it happened on first flight but after that i took 3 more flights and the same story was reapted ! Anyways, in short i would just say that either the planes which KLM haave got are too old or the pilots are not trained according to international standards. So, i would recommend to Avoid KLM unfortuantely. This smile on my face on picture on the Left didn't last long ! *
So it’s not surprising that on a recent trip to Amsterdam, I flew on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and stayed at a Golden Tulip Hotel.
The Dutch-based Golden Tulip chain is very well known and respected throughout Europe, but the name is not as widely recognized by Americans
Thanks to KLM Airlines Amsterdam is connected even with such countries where only a few carriers fly. Plane seems to be the easiest way to get there, but you can use all others way of transportation: by road, by rail or even you can come from the sea.
KLM Airlines travel from places to Amsterdam
Train from the airport to Central Station.
After that always take the trams, they are cheap, clean and reliable.
Walking is easy here because it is so flat.
