I have never been to the restuarant upstairs but the coffeeshop downstairs is a totaly rip off. The dealer and the servers were rude as hell and very arrogant. The weed was wet and wouldnt burn and tasted like ***, I will never go there again.

    Very unpleasant experience!

Use common sense if you decide to try mushrooms while you're here! Just because they're openly sold,( through the so-called "smart shops"), don't assume that they must be perfectly safe at all times. You DON'T want to come outta your adventure to find: 1) you're in another country, 2), dressed only in a monks robe, 3) with maxed-out credit cards, & 4), wanted by INTERPOL. . Getting wacked in ANY strange city isn't always a great idea. Just because the mushrooms are telling you that all TRAMS will all turn into liquid mercury before you & melt into the cobblestones, doesn't mean they will ! REMEMBER: It's been said (so I've heard...) that this stuff is like going on an intense elevator ride. The trick is getting off on the same floor as you started.

Coffee shops and drugs: Don't get stuck in the Coffee Shops

  • Even if the purpose of your trip is for the decriminlized drugs, don't get stuck in just the coffeeshops and the SmartShops. These places can easily suck you in, and you will miss all the attractions the city has to offer. These places are generally in the same place, in the old section of town, make sure you get out and explore all areas of the city. There is more to Amsterdam then coffeeshops and the red light district.

  • Also legal are smart shops, which peddle a variety of "herbal enhancers" (like ephedra) and hallucinogens (like salvia) that walk the line between soft and hard drugs. Some shops are alcohol-free and all have a strict no-hard-drugs policy. All hard drugs like heroin, ecstasy, or cocaine are illegal and possession is treated as a serious crime. Always remember that all experimentation with drugs is dangerous, and can cause either short or long-term damage.
Magic Mushrooms start to work after 30-60 minutes and you'll feel their affect for four to six hours. As with pot and hash, never look for mushrooms outside of a smart shop and never buy from a street dealer; it's extremely difficult to tell the difference between poisonous mushrooms and hallucinogenic mushrooms. The effect mushrooms, also called 'shrooms, have on you will depend on your mood and the environment in which you take it. Overall, the effect is that you will see reality differently. Colors, forms, shapes, time, and experience seem longer or shorter. Blips will appear on your screen, and you won't be able to see other things. A bad trip will most likely come about if you mix hallucinogens, such as 'shrooms, with alcohol. If you have been drinking before taking shrooms, drink a Coke to get some sugar in your system. Try to avoid eating before taking shrooms, as doing so will likely dull your high or could intensify nausea; save the food for until after your trip is over. Often people become panicky and have a faster heartbeat with 'shrooms. It should take up to eight hours for the effects to go away. Additionally, people often take too many 'shrooms because they don't realize that it takes half an hour for them to kick in. If you are having a bad trip, don't be ashamed to tell someone, because you won't be arrested in Amsterdam for using. It is not a crime here, and they've seen it all before.

Magic Mushrooms are considered a "soft" drug by the Dutch authorities and are available throughout the city in Mushroom Galleries or "Smart Shops". Ten to fifteen Euro will buy around twenty to thirty grams of fresh (not dried) mushrooms, more than enough for one person to enjoy or split with a friend. If you?re new to mushrooms or unsure about heir potency, eat half, make sure you can deal with them, than eat the rest an hour or two later. Do not eat them on a completely empty stomach. Have something to eat an hour or so before you begin. They are by the way not that tasty...

    Hash Brownies

These are Hash Brownies from the Abraxas coffeeshop. Many coffeeshops have sweet delites to try like bonbons, muffins and cake. When marijuana and hash are injested it will have more of a body high than just smoking. One must be careful not to intake more than body weight can accommodate, also taking into consideration one's tolerance to THC.

In Amsterdam you can buy "vitamin"-pills, smoke hash, go into the RLD, get drunk and more.....

It's up to you; I rather stay healthy.

For your information: the next list indicaties the likelyhood of trouble vs. cause:

1 - Spacecake (Many tourist confuse this with "normal" cake)
2 - Mushrooms (The strong [negative] effects are not well-known to many)
3 - Cannabis/Soft drugs (Overdosis is a likely cause of trouble)
4 - GHB/XTC (Pills are related to dance parties, but sometimes they are used to seduce victims. Keep an eye on your drink in an unfamiliar place!)
5 - Cocaine/Heroine (only in the illegal circuit and always good for trouble)
6 - Alcohol (Dutch beers contain more alcohol than US ones and drinking too much ...)

This just in...The Associated Press is reporting that starting in January 2005 "under a proposed ban on smoking in public places, Dutch coffee shops will be allowed to sell joints, but their customers will have to go outside to smoke them...The law to ban smoking in public places is targeted at tobacco users, not marijuana smokers, and has met fierce resistance from eating and drinking establishments." Stay tuned for further developments.

if you make it to the bushdoctor coffeeshop ask for the killer hash known as daisey cutter. the name daisey cutter refers to the bomb that the united states air force dropped on afganistan cave buster bombs..well imagine what the bomb does, that's what your brain feels like after you smoke this stuff.. i broke it up into pieces and topped off a bowl of grey haze and blew my mind away! i wish i had bought 5 grams of that hash. at 25 euro a gram it's well worth it..100 X better than the moonshine from dampkring. in the picture it's on the bottom left of the pic labeled accordingly.
