Bergen aan Zee Things to Do

    Ruinekerk Bergen

Actually, Bergen aan Zee is just an outpost of the town of Bergen itself. In Bergen, tourists might want to visit this ruin, called the Ruinekerk.

A source I consulted states that the church suffered considerable damage from an attack by an Anglo-Russian invasion force during a period of great upheaval in our history, back in 1799. But the local tourist information office doesn't mention this at all, they would have it that the church burned down at some time during the 16th century. Well, maybe the British and the Russians fought their battle against the brave Dutch patriots amidst the ruins that remained after the fire ...

Yep, that's me. I'm normally very fond of taking a quick dip into the sea, whatever the season (remember I did the New Years' Dip on Scheveningen Beach back in 2002?)
But in this picture taken on a rainy day in April 2005, I seem to be saying: 'Well, I guess this means the dip is off for today ..."

Very pleasant nautical atmosphere with neat white tablecloths, ship's model, ship's clock &c ; with some beach hut elements thrown in for good measure.

In Holland there are long distance walkingpaths called LAW. From Bergen aan Zee to Enschede goes the LAW 2 the trekvogelpad. It is about 380 kilometers long and the bird protection orginasation NIVON has a book of this path.
It starts in front of the Zeehuis at the Verspijckweg in Bergen aan Zee.
I started this walk because I live 20 kilometers from Bergen aan Zee, and can do it in short trips.
