The "Fortenpad" is a 2 hours walk of about 8 km along 2 of the forts of the "Stelling van Amsterdam", a UNESCO heritage site.
The forts are the Fort aan de Drecht en the fort Bij de Kwakel.
The forts were build between 1885 and 1911.
In times of war the surrounding lands were to be inundated from the Drecht locks.
The forts were build to guard the locks and the local rivers Amstel, Amstel-Drecht, Kromme Mijdrecht and the kleine Drecht and the polders and the dike roads.
In between the forts is "De vuurlijn" with firepoints made of earth.
Equipment: Hiking shoes and rain gear (if necessary)
