Far from the tourism mainstream, the beautiful village of De Rijp lies just 15 kilometres or so southeast of the more famous town of Alkmaar, and can be reached by the No 123 bus from Akmaar Station.
Small enough to walk from end to end in 20 minutes, the entire centre of this village is a national monument, the many 17th century buildings expressing the most beautiful architecture. But you will probably wish to spend several hours exploring the streets and photographing the many national monuments.
De Rijp is a gem that is missed by the majority of travellers to Noord Holland. It has been described as "Holland's Best Village" - and rightly so.
De Rijp is the perfect place to spend a morning or afternoon sightseeing.
