I can't tell you much about the small town of Den Over because I only passed by briefly in order to get to a very long dyke.
The Afsluitdijk (Closure-dike) was constructed between 1927 and 1933 and runs from Den Oever in North Holland province to the village of Zurich in Friesland province.
It has an overall length of 32km's, a width of 90m and it is about 7.25m above sea level. There is a dual lane highway across the top with parking bays along the way to stop for a photo shoot.

Luncheroom The Monument serves the Dutch pannenkoeken. (bliny/pancakes) They are located in the monument-observationtower on the southside of the Afsluitdijk. They cost about 3-5 euro's.
There is also an oportunity to buy souvenirs.
