Coffee Shops, Haarlem
Paddos instead of weed.
During my recent stay in Holland I learned that the trend nowadays is for "paddos", Dutch word for "paddestoel" or mushroom.
Hallucinogenic mushrooms are now a must.
The Dutch newspapers reported already deadly casualties with "magic mushrooms" among tourists in Amsterdam.
Owners of coffee shops will be obliged to hire skilled botanists in order to avoid further lethal cases.
Although I have not a Ph.D. in mycology, I feel I could recommend "Funghi Porcini" as a magic mushroom. I didn't try them in Haarlem but had some in Italy, where this "paddo" is produced. I took this paddo together with tagliatelle and I can tell you that I reached the seventh heaven..
========LATEST NEWS in the Dutch press: the responsible ministers of health and justice have decided to put paddo's under the opium law = prohibition.
The "smartshops" organisation "De Vereniging Landelijk Overleg Smartshops" (sic) is furious. Last year there were 124 incidents in Amsterdam, some deadly, with hallucinogenic mushrooms mostly with young tourists.
Right at the Haarlem station, the Sativa is the most convenient coffeeshop to hit after getting off the train. This place stays very busy due to the location, so don't be surprised to see a line out the door!!
Fondest memory: As the name indicates, they specialize in sativa strains so you can find the authentic Thai Sticks here.
A coin operated weed and hash dispenser is located in all of Nol's coffeeshops, these are in the Sativa.
Fondest memory: If you don't have time to wait in line or if you are short on cash, for only a mere 2 Euro coin( used to be a 5 NLG coin) you can get a little bud or a little piece of hash in a bubble. How cool:))
Right at the Grote Market the Empire is a nice coffeeshop to hang out. There is a pool table and a pinball machine. Internet service is available too for a very reasonable price. .
Fondest memory: When the weather is nice there are tables outside to enjoy a smoke
The deal counter at the new Willie Wortel Sinsemilla is much bigger and has many shelves to store all the marijuana and hash.
Fondest memory: With all the mouth-watering kinds to choose from it can be a difficult decision!#@*!
New location of the Willie Wortel Sinsemilla on the Houtplein. Located on the 1st floor which is really the 2nd because it is not the ground floor, but the Dutch say it is the 1st floor! There is also a large roof terrace but is not open to the public yet due to needed repairs which should be completed by next summer (2003).
Fondest memory: Huge coffeeshop with 2 poot tables a pinball machine and a variety game video. There is long bar with many stools and a DJ booth at the end and lots of tables to sit and relax. There is a seperate area with two computers for internet service.
Willie Wortel's Sativa is conveniently located about a block from the central station. There is a stand at the entrance where they sell from the "menu" but to go inside you have to go through a turnstile that is controlled by the dealer. I never actually figured out what the instructions are, we just told them we were staying rooms above and they let us through. Drinks and snacks were reasonably priced and they also sell space cake and bars of space chocolate. My boyfriend was satisfied with their special products and I enjoyed the hot chocolate. Bonus: free internet in the cafe!
The shop is located at Kruisweg 46.
The Indica coffeeshop has very similar decor to the Sativa but felt more open and friendly. I'm sure a lot of this was due to the lack of a turnstile at the entrance. The menu is slightly different from the Sativa which was nice. The shop is located directly across from the Spaarne river and has a lovely view that includes the restored Adriaan windmill. They also sell the same space cakes and chocolate bars as the Sativa shop.
The coffeeshop is located at Koudenhorn 58
Near the Grote Market, the Indica coffeeshop has a great view of the beautiful windmill in town.
Fondest memory: It is also right on a canal which makes it very gezellig
Tony, the dealer at the Sativa, is very nice and helpful.
Fondest memory: Tony is always there to supply all the best weed and hashish to his customers:))
Favorite thing: The dealer at the Indica is Ferry who just happens to be Nol's son. As the saying goes, "Like Father, Like Son".
Fondest memory: Haarlem aka Hempcity Map, available for free at all of Nol's shops, shows all the best coffeeshops locations and makes it easy to find your way around town.
Spendin' time getting to know the locals.
Fondest memory: All the gang, BlueBerry, Randy, Nol, Marcel, Ronley and WhiteWidow, hanging out at the Sativa enjoying a smoke.... or two!!
Fondest memory: Very small coffeeshop with only a few seats but a large menu. At times this shop is known to have over 50 strains of marijuana to choose from.
Grind up some primo marijuana to smoke at all the coffeeshops!
Fondest memory: Trying many different strains in one day can make it harder to tell which ones are the BEST:))
