Taking the train to Haarlem from Amsterdam is really easy. There is a train almost every 15 minutes and it only takes 15 minutes to get there. You can either get the Sneltrain or the Stoptrain depending on how you feel. The Sneltrain is faster as it stops at less stations but when it is a really cold day, like the day I was there then the comfort of a warm train is very inviting - even if it does take slightly longer to get there.
The best way to find your way about Haarlen is by using the power of your own two feet :-)
