This place is nostalgic for me, because on the first floor the Veronica Broadcast Society started. The restaurant has a terras at the Groest, which is one of the main shopping streets.
2011 update: Fellow member and local specialist vpeter informed me that this restaurant is closed and the new tenants will start a Sushi bar. That's life!

Delicious French and Seafood restaurant.
The menu follows the seasons.
The owners and the servants are very friendly and kind.
In summer you can eat on a very nice terrace in/out of the sun.
Favorite Dish: Too much to tell, but mostly I eat seafood.
Ik ben een visliefhebber en hier hebben ze ook heerlijke visgerechten.

Very cosy and nice café petit restaurant.
This is the place you can find me with my Belgian newspaper and a good cup of coffee with a grappa.
They serve several Belgian beers too.
And on sunny days I'll sit outside on the terrace, if there's place.
It's named after architect Dudok who made lots of buildings and houses in Hilversum.
The most famous is our raadhuis.
Favorite Dish: Last time I had a very nice homemade burger.

In a quiet street on the edge of the town centre, this little restaurant opened for business in the summer of 2009. I've been here about five or six times now and never been disappointed. Take anything on the menu - it's always delicious, no matter what you choose! Everything is freshly made by the Indian owners and rich in flavour. They have a large varied menu, also for vegetarians, ranging from not-spicy-at-all to smoke-out-of-your-ears-hot (note: the menu on their website is not quite complete - they have more!). Staff are very friendly and helpful, portions are big and prices are reasonable (generally around €25 including drinks and nan bread (personal favourite: peshwari nan! Mmm...)).
The only minor drawback I can think of is that there is not much of an outside seating area, and with a rather unromantic view of a service station as well. Still, I don't think that should be reason to go somewhere else and miss such a wonderful meal!
Takeaway available. Closed on Tuesdays.

You may feel slightly scared when you enter what feels like a long dark corridor, but don't be, for at the end awaits coffee and tea galore (and cakes! and lunch! and high tea!) in a very cozy setting. They have a great selection of specialty coffees and teas, and a small shop where you can buy various coffee blends (ground or beans) and teas to take home. It's slightly more expensive than your usual cup, but not much and it's well worth it.
Open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm, Thursdays 10am-10pm

In my opinion simply the best ice cream parlour in town! Great range of delicious ice cream for EUR 1 per scoop, all of it home-made. Not too much room to sit inside, but defininitely clean and tidy and there are plenty of seats outside (which is where you'll want to sit anyway when it's ice-cream weather :-)). The traffic can be a bit busy at times, but there is a beautiful church right across the road to look at whilst enjoying your ice cream. They also offer hot and cold drinks and yummy sandwiches!
Favorite Dish: Try the stroopwafel ice cream! Possibly the most typically Dutch ice cream :-)

This is simply the best Chinese restaurant in town: excellent food, excellent wine and excellent service. They have a great variety of delicious dishes and wines, and you're very well looked after. I can recommend it to anyone. And they have take-away service, too!

Las Tapas is a very popular little place, which means it can be rather noisy and hard to get a table right away. We first had a drink at the bar and after 5 or 10 minutes we were brought to our table. The staff are very friendly and efficient, but with only two waiters running around, it may take a little to attract their attention. Once you have ordered, however, the food is served quickly and tastes excellent! We had six tapas altogether, which was more than we could eat, as well as some bread with very tasty garlic mayonaise. Especially the stuffed tomatoes and the cajun chicken were excellent! The whole place had a very cosy Mediterranean atmosphere and prices range from around EUR 4 to EUR 7 per tapas.
