I travelled to the Netherlands to visit Diana (Dila) in Amsterdam.
Travelling on DFDS from Newcastle to Ijmuiden on the Princess seaways. The ship docked at 09.30 after a 17 hour journey, setting off from Newcastle at 17.30 the previous evening. Once out into the North Sea the weather was very choppy and the ship rocked for a few hours until the wind died down.
Entertainment on board includes a cinema with five choices of films (a payment of 8 euro’s), four restaurants, four bars, kids club, casino and duty free shop. There is also a currency exchange and 24 hour reception desk on board.
The bunks on board are very comfortable with a private toilet and shower room. A 4 channel radio and tannoy is in every cabin, with a wake-up call 2 hours before arrival in Newcastle or Ijmuiden.
The food and drink on board was quite expensive compared with P and O ferries but you could buy snacks in the duty free shop.
It cost me £110 for my two nights aboard the ship. this included transfers, two nights in a single cabin and insurance.
IJmuiden has a large Marina outside the locks, but safely located behind the dunes.
