If you have arrived at Marken by car, you automaticcaly end up in a big parking lot. To enter, you have to pay for a ticket, which you leave in your car. At the moment I went, the fare was 3,40 euro for a car with 2 passengers.

As in the rest of Holland the area around Marken is very cycle friendly, with small roads and designated cycle tracks (watch out for mopeds which can also use them!)

Marken is not far from Amsterdam, in the Ijsselmeer, an island now joined to the mainland by a land bridge. It still has many wooden houses, and you can still see people wearing local costume, not......
Marken is a small fishing village about 10 miles from Amsterdam. There is not a lot to do here which is it's charm the fact that it is not as touristy as say Volendam.
One monday in june 2003, my husband and I waved our kids goodbye, since they were going on a schooltrip the whole day. Once the bus had turned around the corner, we realised we had a whole day ahead...
I visited Marken from Amsterdam, and very much enjoyed the quiet countryside atmosphere it had, along with the seaside town feel to it. It's a nice place to visit when one's already been to Amsterdam...
