Things to Do

Climb the South Tower (Zuidertoren)

Climb the South Tower (Zuidertoren), Muiderslot

ATLC Says:  It's not a very large tower and unfortunately the views upstairs are limited by the narrow slits in the wall you can look through. They are protected by bits of glass which could do with a cleaning.

Watch the fish

Watch the fish, Muiderslot

ATLC Says:  Are they the current defenders of the castle? These big fat fish? It's fun to watch them. I wouldn't know what kind of fish they are though (can someone enlighten me?) and if they're edible!Oh, I put this tip under whale-watching. Just a joke!

Visit the vegetable garden

Visit the vegetable garden, Muiderslot

ATLC Says:  All sorts of known and lesser known vegetables are grown here in immaculate plots. You just get a craving to cook with them and eat!

Visit the herb garden

ATLC Says:  Isn't beautiful? Everything blooming in summer and such wonderful aromas from all those herbs. When you visit the castle, you can choose to visit only the gardens and grounds. A ticket then costs 2,50 euro.

Restaurants

It's a nameless restaurant ...: Nameless fast food restaurant

Muiden - Meet locals here!

An apparently nameless fast food restaurant next to the parking lot at Muizenfort ("Mice Fortress"). Withing walking distance of the Muiderslot. Very laid-back atmosphere, you're bound to run into some silly hipsters here that are poking fun at each other ...

Favorite Dish: French fries.

From Amsterdam Amstel station you can choose bus 101, 152 or 157. It's about 16 minutes to Muiden. It's a small town and it's no more than 10 minutes walk to the castle.
The aforementioned buses ride 4x per hour from Mon-Fri, and 2x per hour on weekends.

Museum shop: Buy seeds

Museum shop: Buy seeds, Muiderslot

ATLC Says:  there's a little shop in the castle that sells seeds from plants grown in the castle vegetable garden. Just one euro per sachet. Should be fun to watch them sprout next year. I bought a few varieties of peas and beans. I'm hopeless at this sort of stuff but I like eating...

Tour guide, Muiderslot

egonwegh Says:  Don't take the tour with the lady with the high pitched voice! With several tours an hour it would be better to wait a while for the next tour to start ...That's me after the tour in the central court yard.

Favorite thing: Isn't this just beautiful? With the sunlight coming through, vibrant greens. The green corridor divides the herb garden (left side) from the vegetable garden.
