Twenty minutes from Amsterdam. Efficient and well laid-out. Vast 'Panorama Terrace'.
So many security checks. Useless souvenir shop.
Great airport, but there is more
The Schiphol Panorma Terrace is great place to spend some time with children and watch all the activities on the platforms below. The terrace stretches over most of the terminal building roof at the platform side, so there always is room enough.Expect some school classes visiting and the sounds and smells of airplanes are obvious.2011 Update: A...more

Thanks for the links. Just found out that this may be a problem when I was looking for direct flights from Calgary to Manchester. They don't seem to start up again until May.Ottawa is thousands of miles away, and if I mail in my passport to renew it I don't know if I'd get it back in time. Also I won't be going near London, England to renew there....more

It is good to know that the Polderbaan spotter's place does not end at the place of the parking cars. When you drive on for about 20 metres there is the end of the Polderbaan (IJweg) where is a small roundabout for turning back. Here you can park the car, too. And watch the planes better, or just take a nice walk in the country around. With good...more

You can find the Holland Casino at the Schiphol Airport between the E and F piers.
Unique Suggestions: Don't spend all your money!
Fun Alternatives: Have a look at the platform; there is activity enough.
If possible I travel with hand carried luggage only, but my personal record with a claimed suitcase was to be at 7.30AM at the gate and be in my train at 7.50AM (with 10 seconds spare time!).Checked-in luggage is the same as on any big airport. I had to wait on 2 occasions, but until now I still got my suitcase in the very end. Most of Schiphol is...more
