Volendam Things to Do

  • Homes in Volendam along the canals

As you can see in the photos here, the main attraction in Volendam are the homes, boats and wharfs. You step back in time a few hundred years as you explore this beautiful village. Enjoy a cup of coffee or some fish at the port and also the many old boats there. Or maybe even try the ever present herring.

  • Inside the Volendam

Not all of the time can be spent out of doors when at sea on the HAL ship Volendam. Fortunately there are talks, libraries and places to relax. The camera can go there as well. Mine has a zoom lens and plenty of ISO available for interior shots.

  • Outside on the Volendam

The Volendam has an inside and an outside life for the passenger - oops, guest. Days at sea find you walking about the Lower Promenade deck or up front bird watching or watching the sun set or doing nothing but relax. I photograph. The subjects are endless. My gear is a simple DSLR with a moderate zoom lens. Travel simple and light.

This is what I call the touristy area of Volendam. I imagine, that on a nice sunny Summer's day, it would be extremely busy. It was, cold, wet and very windy, so not many people. This area has some nice statues of Dutch people in traditional costume. They make good photo opportunities as well. It is also where the majority of Tourist shops are, and...

See Johnny_CA's page and decide for yourself if you want to look silly in what he calls 'the old garb'.
    I won't. I refuse. I will not do it!
