The star attraction of the town is of course the windmills. More than a half dozen rstored windmills are with within walking distance of each other.

Small windmills like this were used throughout the country to pump water out and keep the Polder (reclaimed land) from flooding.
The open air museum also contains a recreated village of traditional houses and shops. You can just wander and imagine what it must have been like to live in Holland a 100 years ago.
At the clog shop there are frequent demonstrations of how clogs are made using the various milling machines there. Its a great show even though it only lasts for 10 minutes.
In this building you can see how ships and boats used to be repaired. There are still some smaller boats being repaired here.
