From Amsterdam there are numerous trains that takes you there. If you don’t have a return ticket take some coins since there is a machine and when I was there dind’t accepted notes (Maybe with the euro they have been changed).
Once you get off the train walk along the street up to the end, then turn left and after some few metres right, when you see the bridge. Once in the bridge you see the windmills which announces you have arrived.

Save 20 to 40 Euro getting there

If you are staying in Amsterdam or have a long lay over at Schiphol, there will be no shortage of tour companies offering a day trip to Zaanse Schans. What they don't tell you is you can do it MUCH CHEAPER. Right now I have two brochures in hand, one company is 28 euro and the other is 45 euro per person.

From Schiphol you will go to Amsterdam Central, then form Amsterdam Central you change trains to Koog-Zaankijk. Total cost for round trip ticket 7.50 euro. If you are in Amsterdam its even cheaper!

The train ride from Schiphol to Koog-Zaankijk is 30 to 40 minutes depending on time of day. (less if you are already in Amsterdam)

Once you get off the train in Koog-Zaankijk, there is plenty of signs to point you in the right direction. It is a 15minute walk, but a very enjoyable one, for you also get to see a nice village on the way.

The windmill park is 15 minutes by train north of Amsterdam. Take the Alkmaar-direction train to Station Koog-Zaandijk and then follow the signs for 10 minutes. If driving from Amsterdam, take the A8 (direction: Zaanstad/ Purmerend), turn off at Purmerend A7, then follow signs to Zaanse Schans.

From Amsterdam Central Station you have to buy a return ticket on the yellow ticket machine to Koog Zaandijk that cost 5.60 Euros. We caught the train at 9.33 am from platform num 7a. the trip takes about 20 minutes and from there just walk about 10 minutes to Zaanses Schans.

From Amsterdam
There is an excellent bus service operating from Amsterdam Central Station direct to the Zaanse Schans. Bus 91 leaves Amsterdam Central Station twice hourly and stops at the St. Michael College next to the Zaans Museum and Zaanse Schans.
Think a single ticket cost 4 euro from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans or maybe there is a special return ticket

From Zaandam
Busses run from Zaandam Station to the Zaanse Schans every hour. Take bus 89 direction Wormerveer to Koog aan de Zaan. The bus stop is situated at windmill De Bleeke Dood.
think ticket is 2 euro

If you wanna go to Zaanse Schans by train, you'll find yourself still a couple of minutes away from the actual site. To get there is quite easy though. All you have to do is follow the signsposts. Basically you walk straight on, take a right turn and then cross the bridge. It's about a 10 minute walk.
