Brinktoren wind vane (still with LEDs!) by pieter_jan_v The Brinktower wind vane has the form of a little boy making a long nose. It's the visualisation of the so called "Hengeler Weend". This term is difficult to translate; "hot air" comes close. Furthermore The Brinktower was known for its high-tech digital clock with thousands of LEDs. From the beginning there was trouble. Even in the design phase the right colour of the LEDs was an issue and when constructed and placed, it turned out the recommended colour by the supplier would have given a better readout. Than technical failures followed, giving different readouts on the four sides up to complete failure of parts of the display. Rain water got in and the "who is responsable" question arose. After much debat the top was taken off in 2007 and all there is left is an open frame work (another historical piece of "Hengeler Weend"). On the City Hall tower there is an even bigger wind vane with the name "Levensgang" (the circle of life). East: Child playing with a ball South: Mother with child West: Old man North: The dead Leave a Comment

Police Headquarters by pieter_jan_v The policeforce is moved to a new location. It is just a few hundred meters from the previous spot at the Marskant. The new BLUE building replaces the former RABO bank offices. The prison cells were tested by volunteers. Leave a Comment

by mauritsh When you come to the Netherlands and have more time than one week, go to one of the islands, like Terschelling or Ameland. We did already when I was 3 years old, as I can remember very well. As you see the brat on the right is me on the island of Terschelling together with my big brother. Gazing at the dutch army who were doing some exercise on the beach. Yep then I think my interest for aviation was founded. Leave a Comment

The St. Lambertus Basilic was build in 1890, but the catholic community was already 100 years older. Services started in a barn-church around 1800. The big building withstood many World War II bombardments and was lucky to servive un unexploded shell that crashed through the roof. Inside the Celebration Altar is the central heart in the church. Three more altars are present: the Hogh Altar by Friedrich Wilhelm Mengelberg and the Maria Altar and the Family Altar. The three stain glass main windows form a connection fron the Old to the New Testament. Leave a Comment

Here's another location where the demolition team came along: Beursstraat/Enschedesestraat. A part of the Telecom building has gone. A car park has been build here and the library is moved from the Town Hall to this location. Leave a Comment
