Indonesian restaurant De Kroon van Bali opened in november 2012. Owner Frank Ceulen transformed the former café biljart Veltkamp into a great place to eat.
The new name is made up of two parts: De Kroon, a former hotel, that was one of the location options; and Bali, the name of a former Indonesian restaurant at Hengelo, but that closed 30 years before.
I visited the place a week after the opening. The staff was very enthousiast and the management had overcome most of the challenges they faced after having enormous numbers of visitors in the first days of opening. They know what has to improve and will work hard on that.
In that first week a try-out menu was served and the next challenge is the full menu with over 50 special Indonesian dishes with meat and fish.
Owner Frank who used to prepared his delicious meals for a smaller number of friends, now sees his variety of tastes being multiplied in the restaurant.
There is a separate take away section.
