    De Oude Raadskelder

    by sim1 Updated Sep 1, 2013

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

De Oude Raadskelder : my favourite restaurant in Oldenzaal! The atmosphere and the service in this restaurant is fabulous and the food is absolutely delicious. It is not a cheap restaurant but it is really worth the money!

You do have to take your time though when you go dining here; it is a real evening out. At the start of every meal you get french bread with butter and tapenade on the house. All the dishes are perfect from the starters to the wonderful desserts!

You can have a special wine arrangement. You will be served with a different wine with every dish, so you have different wines during the evening that all match perfectly to the dish you are eating.

    Herberg de Gulden Kroes

    by sim1 Updated Sep 1, 2013

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Herberg de Gulden Kroes. Another good restaurant in Oldenzaal. There are plenty of restaurants here, but I just wanted to mention these two to you. The Gulden Kroes is a nice restaurant with a special touch to it. All the menu's have names that relate to the history of this region and are in dialect. The food is served in a surprising way, that hints back to the past, and it tastes real good!

Alinks Bakkerij: For A Cheaper Lunch Alternative

by johngayton Updated May 13, 2012
    Frontage (after closing time).

For a nibble on the hoof this little bakery is ideal. Throughout the morning and lunchtime they offer a range or ready-to-eat hot and cold pastries and sandwiches and prices are more than reasonable.

Whilst the trade is mostly take-away they do have a couple of tables inside and out for those that want to sit and eat.

Favorite Dish: I just had a salami, cheese and salad wholegrain roll one late lunchtime and for a couple of euros this was just the job. Service is quick and the place is usually busy/busy.

Markt 19: Lunch In The Shade

by johngayton Written Jul 18, 2010
    Gonzales Special
    2 more images

When the noontime sun is high this "Grand Cafe" style place is ideally located on the shady corner of the main market square.

The lunchtime menu offers the usually snacky stuff such as Tostis, Broodjes and Uitsmijters as well as the usual range of bar nibbles. If you really want to splash out there's also an a-la-carte section with ribs, steaks and seafood but judging by the prices I reckon you can expect substantial portions.

Service, certainly on the terrace, is informal and is probably equally so if eating indoors.

Favorite Dish: I just opted for a hot sandwich for my light lunch - the "Gonzales Special" which was a tasty crisply-baked roll oozing with melted cheese, roast peppers and jalapenos peppers.

Accompanied by a cup of coffee the over 7 Euro bill I thought was a bit steep for what I had but it was OK and the waitress was friendly.

Sirtaki: Always Check Out The Dagmenu!

Having met up with PJ and Swanet early evening at De Engel where we had a couple of beers and a platter of Van Dobben bitterballen it soon became time to find somewhere proper to eat.

I suggest Dutch but as they both pointed out: "We eat Dutch all the time!" So off we wandered in search of the exotic. The first place we looked in on was a Lebanese place on Steenstraat but that was a) empty and b) expensive and so we passed on that.

Next we came to Sirtaki. This place too was empty but our Calvanistic instincts prevailed and the 10 Euro Dagmenu made our choice for us.

Favorite Dish: This turned out to be an excellent choice. The friendly owner greeted us with a complimentary round of ouzos which we just had to complement with the "Ouzo Pikilia" - a meze of all the Greek favourites including Taramasalata, Hummus, Dolmades and a couple of other bits and bobs, along with an ample basket of nicely chewy crusty bread.

For mains all three of us stuck to the Dagmenu which for that day was a sort of mini mix grill comprising Souvlaki, Giros and Bifteka. This little trio came with sides of fries, salad and tzatziki and was tasty, meaty and substantial.

Not so substantial though that PJ and Swanet couldn't find room for ice-cream sundaes to finish, whilst me, I settled for another beer and a really excellent, cardammon-scented, Greek coffee.

Pleasant company, a discreet ambience (provided by ourselves since we were still the only customers) in a not too kitschy Greek-themed dining room made for an excellent evening out and at a tad over 20 Euros each a reasonably cheap one.

There was a great restaurant at Het Hulsbeek but a you can see they made the food a little to spicy!!!
It`s a shame that such a nice and old building was destroyed by fire
I was there working to put the fire out.
Unfourtianatly we were not able to save much of this old buiding.
It was more than 150 jears old!!!!!
