    Church at Windesheim

by egonwegh Updated Sep 23, 2013
    Zwolle, reformed church Windesheim

With friends of ours, we made a bike trip to the village of Windesheim near Zwolle in September 2013. This is the building of the reformed church at Windesheim (church membership approx. 700). Originally it formed part of a larger monastic complex. They say it may have been the brewery of the abbey back in those days, that would explain the exceptional height.

    Spoolderberg

by egonwegh Updated Jul 27, 2012
    Zwolle, Spoolderberg

Somewhat mysterious track leading up to the top of a small mound called Spoolderberg - an important meeting place during the Middle Ages. On this same spot the city rights of the town of Zwolle were proclaimed in the year 1230. Wikipedia says that this is also where the townspeople or local farmers met their feudal lords during the so-called 'landdagen'. Within walking distance of the park Het Engelsche Werk.

    Relics Thomas a Kempis

by egonwegh Updated Jul 27, 2012
    Zwolle, relics Thomas a Kempis

The relics of Thomas a Kempis (ca. 1380-1472), mystic, author of the Imitatio Christi. In November 2005, these relics were transferred - as a translator I feel tempted to say 'translated' - from St. Michaels Church, where Jennie played the organ until 1994, to the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Basiliek or Peperbus in the town centre. I never paid much attention to them while they were in St. Michaels, but the neo-Gothic shrine containing the relics is a must see ... if you are interested in relics.

Go to KAMPEN, 20 km away from Zwolle. Kampen is much nicer, more authentic! Kampen is a medieval town, with narrow streets. In kampen there are also loads of Christian girls, giggling all the time. But the environment in which they giggle is much nicer, know what I mean? Go to the café Mondriaan.

We were lucky that the manager dug up these slightly dated bottles of the Lentebock which is a seasonal meibock beer available only in spring and this was in November. Thanks Simone. :)
