Favorite thing: Yet again Oude Gracht, and for good reason. It's got a great selection of restaurants. THE most peaceful place (for me) in the world on a hot summers day. Go for a trip on the water on the canal boat (Rondvaart) for an even more unforgettable experience!

Favorite thing: The old town is surrounded by the Singel Gracht which was the old defensive moat. The central area is crossed by the Oude Gracht and the Nieuwe Gracht and the water level is so low here that the vaults in the embankment walls are used as store rooms and many of them have been converted into gorgeous little cafes and restaurants. This is a feature of the city that Amsterdam doesn't have.

Favorite thing: Again in Utrecht, like in so many other Dutch cities and towns, canals are the center of attraction. The particularity about Utrecht's canals is that they lay quiet below the street level and you can walk down there. They have made a lot of cafés in the basements of the buildings, and by good weatherm the canals will be lined with street cafés.

Favorite thing: What ever you have done before, end at the oude gracht. Take a chair, a drink and a bite, take a look and relax.

Fondest memory: The canals of Utrecht are unique: below the street level there's another level where you can find many restaurants.
