    Taboe tango: Experimental tango

by ptitetoile Updated Jun 15, 2004

An Amazing tango ball every last Friday of the month for the tangueros who want to experiment on a amazing and estonishing music! The round room is wonderful and the floor is excellent! One venue not to miss for the neotango freaks! This milonga is organised by Parras and Paul, two very sympathic dancers which give also workshops before the ball.

This is a great little pub with a dance floor. The music it plays is varied: typical charts stuff, dance, old favourites, etc. Drinks are reasonably priced. But we warned: I did say LITTLE. For such a small venue, they believe in packing them in. This either creates a better atmosphere, or turns the place into a cattle market; depending on your perspective! And as is typical for Nederland; don't go before 2300 as its dead!

Oosters Badhuis Hamam: Bathing in the late evening

by aukjejetty Written Jan 8, 2004

This place good also be in the "daylife" section if there was such a thing. It is not a must see activity, it has not even much to do with Utrecht, but for some reason it sounds like a great place to be in the evening. It is still on my 'to-do'-list.

For men it is only open on Tuesday 4pm-11pm. Sorry guys, not much choice here!

For women it is open Tuesday to Friday from 12am - 11pm, and in the weekend from 11am -11pm.

Everyone older than 15yrs pays € 9, anyone younger pays € 3,50. If you come with a group (at least 10 persons) you will get a discount.

Reservations have to be made if you want massages, scrubs or beautytreatments. Also if you want to come with more than 5 people.

    Tivoli

In Tivoli there is always something going on. There are concerts, dance-parties, back to the .. parties, .. anything. The people who come here are usually not your main-stream. But anything goes, depending on the evening. World music, drum n bass, trash, 80's, less known bands..

Dress Code: As far as i know.. anything goes. From very excentric to gothic, to old jeans, to dressed-up. Probably depends a bit on the evening but likely it doesn't matter much

The webside has the calendar of all events.

    Terrace along the canal

Not a 'real' nightlife tip, but a great spot to have a drink. Along the canals of Utrecht, you can take the stairs to a lower level, away from the traffic and the city. Here, along the waterside are plenty of places where you sit and enjoy a drink. A great spot to be on a beautiful summers day.

    One beer please!

Mmmmm, doesn't it look inviting to sit here? I just love sitting and relax on a terrace on one of the many squares in The Netherlands, or in this case, along the canal..... one beer please! :-))

http://www.polmanshuis.nl/: a night out with a big group

by catnl Updated May 18, 2003
    Polmans, Utrecht

This former church at the Kromme Nieuwegracht is a mixture of several styles. Its most striking feature is the square Byzantine tower. The building, built by the Remonstrants in the year 1863, was used by the Apostolic Society for a long time. The church is built on the spot where once stood the chapel of Hiëronymus. The Latin School was founded here and has long been used for scientific education. Eventually it became the University of Utrecht.
Ottone offers a pleasant and bright space, which can be used for numerous activities. During the festivals of Utrecht Ottone is one of the many venues for concerts and plays.
Due to its size (it holds a maximum of 600 guests) it is well equipped to handle large groups for weddings, promotions, congresses, etcetera. Dinners and lunches are served from an in-house kitchen.

    Go to sleep early

    by seabree1001 Written Sep 9, 2002

I didn't go out at night, but Thursday evenings are when everything stays open later. The streets are very busy (so I hear). I do know they are a mess on Friday mornings. The men with the blowers are very busy.

Thursday nights there's an 'open mic' at the jazz club on the Oudegracht next to the No Name coffeehouse. Good local crowd & performers; definitely a bit off the beaten path -- even if it is on the Oudegracht!!
Ancient arched-roof canalside warehouse/celler, now renovated into a jazz cafe. Such cellar renovation is a common theme in Utrecht.

Definitely the nicest spot to spend an evening outside in the summer! Nice atmosphere. You can sit there, making new friends, or just watch other people talking! Most other terraces in Utrecht are filled with very dressed up people, this terrace isn't.It's much more relaxed!

November 16th till the 18th is 'smartlappen route' in Utrecht, one of the funniest weekends in this city. Smartlappen is a dutch word for folk songs, most of the pubs and cafes will have live bands playing (horrible) dutch music and pubs will be transformed into living rooms of 'common people', eg. flowery curtains, flowery sofa's in the most horrid colours etc. and also the staff working in pubs will be in style. (too blond high hair for the ladies and slick hair for the guys with their shirts half open) Its probably more fun for dutch people because most of us will know the songs, but its always busy and a fun weekend in Utrecht. A good place to be is Cafe de Zaak, which is situated just behind the city hall, just ask most people will know it.

When you want to go out go to the center. Disco clubs like WoolooMooloo and famous bars like Stairway to Heaven are waiting for you. There are also many more bars and discos.
