The journey started in several countries all over the world. Seven peace flames melted together to one world peace flame when various people who are known for their involvement and striving for peace had lighted them before. The flames were transported to Wales by assistance of institutions such as The Royal Dutch Air Force.
On the 31st. of July in 1999 The World Peace Flame Foundation brought them together to create The World Peace Flame. In 2002 the flame was by occasion of a peace march transported from Wales to The Hague, NL, were it on the 17th of April 2002 was ignited in front of the Vredespaleis to form a permanent Peace Flame. We can find continuously burning Peace Flames in Memphis, Berlin, Sydney, The Hague, Venlo, Cadzand and in 2011 in Nijmegen.
Cadzand is undoubtedly suitable for a permanent Peace Flame. It is a place with friendly atmosphere and the beautiful environment offers plenty of chances for rest and meditation.
Although a lot of bloody battles have taken place in this region, Cadzand nowadays is home to a lot of different nationalities, all living together in peace and harmony.Related to:
