Deksels is the first Tapas restaurant in Middelburg.
It's located in an old house next to the modern contrast of the Geere Passage shops.
There's an outside terrace at both sides of the street and also on the first floor there are some tables.
Favorite Dish: I tried the daily menu: 3 courses of 5 different tapas combinations.
I come here for years now always when I go to Middelburg, I go here. Great food, friendly personel and nice beers.
Favorite Dish: The "Uitsmijter" ham, cheese and bacon on Belgium bread is great! But also try this "Vlaams brood rode biet gerookte forel sla en kerriemayo".
Nice little restaurant where we had our dinner outside on the terrace.
Quick and friendly service.
Big portions, I could hardly finish the mixed grill with fries I had ordered. Quality AND quantity!
My girlfriend had a vegetarian pizza with mushrooms which was also very good.
The soup came with free bread and butter.
We spend about 20 euro per person, including several drinks.
We both would come back here without a hesitation!
Favorite Dish: Mixed grill
We had dinner at this restaurant, outside on the terrace.
I had the schnitzel "De Vliegenier", which was prepared below average.
In contrast, the vegetarian wrap my girlfriend had was good.
Personally, I would not come back here but my girlfriend would.
On the market square with a fine view of the Town Hall, are many restaurants and heated terraces so that you can sit outside and enjoy a drink or a meal.
Favorite Dish: Zeeuwse Vissoep (Zeeland Fish soup) with crusty bread € 4,50.
Pistolet (French bread) with smoked salmon € 6,50.
Zeeuwse Appelaere (applejuice made of Zeeland apples) is a lovely 100% organic drink. € 1,80.
This place is the ideal place to have lunch when you go to Middelburg for a day out. They have a wide range of simple but hearty dishes. AND: the service is really friendly. Everything is done with a smile and they do everything to make you happy. E.g.: My wife asked if they had tabasco because she likes her food spicy. They didn't have but the chef came directly to our table to bring a couple of sauces that could make her spaghetti spicy and more to her taste.
Directly beside the town hall this cafe (with a black marquis) looks very inviting. Especially with a lot of people sitting outside on its terrace. On the photo, the cafe is on the left side of the town hall.
Favorite Dish: Good fish soup (4 euro), tuna club sandwich (6,25 euro) and a french bread sandwich with goat's cheese, chorizo and honey (5 euro). Including drinks it came to less than 10 euro per person.
During summerseason there's a terrace outside where you can drink, eat and enjoy the sunshine untill the sun is gone...... It's one of my favorite places because of that sunshine late in the afternoon or early in the evening
Favorite Dish: I believe it all taste good!!
I only had a lunch on this place but I liked it. Sometimes during the weekends there is live music inside and it can be very crowdy as we saw the last time when there was playing a blues band.
Favorite Dish: I had a clubsandwich with salmon....Yummie!
As you see all empty now but not for long,in less then an hour I was back and all the one hundreed odd sits were taken, people just sitting enjoying the sun and food or a drink maybe..
Favorite Dish: Did not have anything to eat, just ordered a coffee
This place, located in the heart of my home town is called DE VRIENDSCHAP which means FRIENDSHIP and that is a fine name for this place.
Wonderfully situated at the Markt it also has plenty of space for a HUGE outdoor cafee where you will forget about time and clocks while sipping your drink, having your lunch or dinner while basking in the warm bright sunlight!
Favorite Dish: Making reservations is the best thing to do: we are a fine tourist destination here and isn't it awful not to be able to find a table where you can silence your rumbling stomah at ease??
Reservations: call +31(0)118 62 89 89
This restaurant is situated in the most pleasant place in town: underneath the Lange Jan, the ABBEY TOWER.
While enjoying foor / drink there, inside or outside, you will be able to hear the carillion, a short tune every 15 minutes and a longer tune (we all know the tunes: christmas songs in December, nursery rhymes, Sinterklaas dongs the weeks before 5th December and more...) at each whole hour.
They have a lovely menu card and....lots of music.
Not only the place where the restaurant is is atmospheric: the JAZZ EETCAFé itself is also very atmospheric.
Favorite Dish: The owner Mr. R. Minnaert will look after you very well and give you more than you expect, which is always great!
Middelburg is more than a thousand years old and was for centuries on end one of the most important trading centres in EUROPE.
Despite wars and catastrophies it has retained its historical ambience.
Hundreds of imposing monuments in streets and untroubled squares bear witness to times gone by, as do the MEDIEVAL ABBEY with its LANGE JAN TOWER (which you can climb!!), the late-gothic TOWNHALL and the many simpler workshops and houses in de KUIPERSPOORT.
Of course none of this means that Middelburg still lives in the past, on the contrary!
We have lovely shopping streets, pedestrians only areas!, cosy pubs and dozens of street cafees. And in summer.......hundreds of cane chairs on squares and streets to bask in the sun....
AND ALL THIS IS IN WALKING DISTANCE OF THIS HOTEL.......
Favorite Dish: In the postcard: a bird's eye view of the CITY CENTRE of MIDDELBURG ..........
This place is a bookshop, but so much more than only that!
It feels as if it is a bazar!
You can walk around and find: books, books, books (also in foreign languages, which is normal here in The Netherlands) but also a music department with lots of wonderful CDs, a pretty collection of special greeting cards for birthdays and other special days, a treasure trove filled with the most lovely books for children, of course there are many, many (glossy)magazines, computergames and all kinds of things for your computer and last but not least a lovely BRASSERIE where it is a pleasure to sit, eat and drink, talk and watch other visitors......
Favorite Dish: In this BRASSERIE is a special "room" where often are musicians.......
It is a special place which already has got 3 AWARDS, 1 for the best shop in THE NETHERLANDS, 1 for the most CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP and 1 for the BEST DUTCH BOOKSELLER................respectively in 2002, 2001 and 2003.....
I wonder which AWARD will follow this year, 2004.....I shall let you know.
And to as we do: make it a meetingpoint!
Here I had to click "other" because this lovely, very atmospheric JAZZ EETCAF? has to many special things to treat its guests to.....
I can strongly recommend this place, that is located in the very heart of my home town of Middelburg, to you!
Favorite Dish: Perfectly situated near DE KOORKERK and HET ABDIJ COMPLEX and it halso has a nice terrace under chestnut trees.............
Each 15 minutes you can hear the carollion and each hour it wil play for some 5-10 minutes! Such a pleasure....
