Middelburg Shopping

A nice little shop full of postcards where you even can drink a cup of coffee and taste a "Zeeuwse babbelaar".... The lady who owns the place is very friendly.

This is one of my favorites in Middelburg and every time when I'm in town I have to go inside this shop. Most of the time I only buy some postcards because they sell beautiful special ones but sometimes I buy a gift.

This picture shows you that we have a huge pedestrians-only area here in Middelburg.

The most important street is de Lange Delft, which also has lovely, very old, narrow side streets with special shops.....

Then there is de Markt, de Segeerstraat, de St. Janstraat, de Lange Viele and more.....

You can walk at ease there, only early in the morning there are some cars that have to deliver goods.................but almost all shops have special entrances for such deliveries at the back of the premises.

On the Markt and in the streets are plenty of benches to sit en enjoy the songs of the carillion, drinks and mussels e.g. or sweetsweet ice-creams.....

All in all: a good place to be and enjoy life, especially in summer and.....the sea and beach are so easily to be reached........

Of course (and again!) I had to click on 'OTHER' because this shop has so much to offer to curious women, children who are fond of sweets, men who want to surprise their wives with something sweet-smelling that in fact I could have ticked a lot of types....

This shop will make you go in because the doors are always open and the smell that greets you is such a nice mixture, sweet and alluring, that you won't be able to resist it.

There's tea in numerous tastes, soaps and talcum powder, sweets and herbs. Dried flowers for special medicinal infusions such as camomile......oh and they have lovely candles too and.....well I could type quite a list.

My best advice is: go there yourself.

The shop is in THE shopping area for-pedestrians-only in the city centre.
Name of the streets: LANGE DELFT.

INTHE PHOTOGRAPH: a precious old (and old-fashioned) sign that shows you the shop of the chemist.........they are very sought after nowadays!

These shops (yes, there are several in different places) are so utterly alluring!

No one wil leave there with empty hand because it is far too difficult, not to say impossible, NOT to buy something.

They offer a wide range of high quality articles. To give you an idea: candles, scented candles, candle sticks, cutlery and crockery decorated in very special ways, soap, cushions, grands foulards, lamps, chairs, tables, posters and paintings, things made of shiny copper, table clothes, napkins, flower pots for inside and/or outside, dolls and pluche animals and much, much more....

Here in Middelburg the shop is located at the Market, the city centre itself; you can't miss it!

This is a jar OF REAL ZEEUWSE HONEY.....

And Zeeland being the Dutch Province with most HOURS OF SUNSHINE.....this HONEY can't but be DELICIOUS....

HONEY is something I shall always buy wherever I am.......during trips, outings and holidays, I still have a few that are waiting for me: from Ireland and Switzerland and Argentina............lovely in TEA, in MILK, in COOKIES, in CAKES and.....just a spoonful before going to bed will make a cold or a cough disappear..........

Hollandsche Nieuwe is herring eating RAW on the thursday market.

It's typically Dutch and extremely nice, this long thin silver sea fish!

Eat it with onion. Pik it up at the tail and then lift it in your mouth, that will be delighted by the taste!! I promise!

If you come to Holland, you surely MUST buy tulips; nice for in your hotel or tent. It's the Worldwide symbol of Holland (although I guess they are probalbly imported from Uganda)!
