..for young and old.

A rural feast returning every year. According to tradition this feast begins 8 weeks before Easter. It starts in Renesse, the next week follows Burgh-Haamstede, then Noordwelle and ends after 7 weeks in Serooskerke. So there are 7 saturdays of fun in Schouwen Duiveland.
'Straô rijden' goes back far in time, probably many ages.First time it's mentioned is in1841. In the early days the workhorses stayed in the stables during the winter. As soon as the winter reached its end the stableboys/farmboys took the horses into the sea to "wash" their feet. The meaning of this was to "free the horses legs from evil forces", and by doing so celebrite that spring and summer would soon start.
The event is celebrated enthusiastic these days, not just by the stableboys and farmboys, but by everyone. While the decorated horses make their way to the sea, the people in the Village organise all sorts of festivities. This is a folkloric feast in a modern way for young and old.

Pension “De Herberg Anno 1785”: Cute and cosy guesthouse in the centre, Renesse

elbe Says:  Cute and simple guest-house form 1785 in the centre of Renesse, right in the opposite of the church. The rooms are very small, but really nice and clean. Every room has its own bathroom with hairdryer, a mini-safe, radio and tv. It’s not far to the beach (I think about one...

Specially in the summer it's very crowded. People (youth) come from Germany, England, Belgium and from the rest of the Netherlands. Renesse is know as one of the party places to be, but it is also a very good place for familytrips, you can compare it with Salou only then a small version of it. The local shops aren't very pleased with all the youth. They provide money, but also a lot of noise. Lately Renesse is trying to attract more family's, to come and enjoy the beach.

Dress Code: As i'm considered to be a youth, i'll give you my opinion; i don't visit Renesse for the nightlife often, as i described before it's crowded in the summer, and for me it's too crowded. Renesse is trying to get rid of the name as nightlife place, but in my eyes they are not trying very hard, problem is that the disco's, bar's depend on them for the money and so does Renesse. Everything closes at 2 AM in the summer, in the winter at 3 AM. Next problem is that youth under age of 16 aren't allowed in bar's, but most you'll see are 14 or 15 years old.

Renesse is also a really good family place, there are a lot of things to do during the summer, most people just come to the beach, which is pretty big. During the day, till 11 PM, you'll hardly know, if you walk in Renesse, that there are also disco's and bars.

During the summer you'll probably won't notice much as the local supermarket is still open as well as other shops, but Renesse is still very very religious. Please take that in a acount, and if you're there outside tourist season definitly have respect for it. Shops, stores ect. are closed, and maybe you're not accustomed to it just accept the fact, and there is always the normal monday following.

Warnings and Dangers

Whitsuntide in Renesse

Be careful if you plan to come to Renesse over Whitsuntide! If you plan to do a drink- and party-trip you’re right in this period. But if you just want to spend some quiet days at the beach you’ll be very disappointed. Many young Germans from the Rhineland go to Renesse or Domburg over Whitsuntide to have four days full of party and drinking.
