The locks to the canal

The patrol craft Wytvliet waits in the Vlissingen locks to enter the Schelde-Rijn-Kanaal (canal). Just opposite the train station, the locks allow boats to traverse the entire peninsula. In particular, Middelburg is only five miles away, although waiting for the intervening bridges to be raised can cause the trip to take hours.

Wind turbines

Within view of the windmill at the south end of Vlissingen, seven 250 kW wind turbines were built in 1990. Generating enough energy to satisfy 1000 households, it’s clear The Netherlands past and future is linked with wind power.
