    Solskin: Solskin

    by myriam_c Updated Aug 29, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Solskin is right on the boulevard, with a beautiful view over the sea and the beach.
It has a sunny terrace in the front, with windscreens and heaters, so that even in the winter it's very enjoyable to sit there on a sunny day.

Favorite Dish: I've eaten there various times, both for lunch and for dinner.
Last time was during our VT meeting in Middelburg. I had beef carpaccio (starter) and 'Zeeuws Vispannetje' (main). The main course came with various vegetables, rice, baked potatoes and fries. It was an excellent meal.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It's on the boulevard and they have a large terrace in front, where it's nice to sit on a sunny day - also in the winter thanks to the wind screens.

Favorite Dish: Salads, baguettes, omelettes, etc. for lunch.
Wines by the glass (on the summer terrace).
An extensive menu card & wine list for dinner.
Guests are also welcome for a cup of coffee or a resfreshment the whole day long.

This restaurant won "De Zilveren Champignon" in 2003. This is a prestigious contest in which only the best restaurants compete.

NOTE: The picture was taken on March 28th, 2003. The temperature was 22°C!!

Gevangentoren: Just new, historical & Exclusive

    by pieter_jan_v Updated Jan 7, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Restaurant De Gevangentoren opened in summer 2006, just when I happened to be in town. I visited this exclusive restaurant with a French/Dutch kitchen in its second opening week. Due to a rare heatwave the restaurant was loaded ever since it opened. The old round city gate tower, the only remainder of the old city wall is restored in its beauty and extended with a round terrace with a glass wall with great view on the nearby ship traffic on the Schelde river.

The guests mainly seems to be upper class and our bunch was a little out-of-tune.
The owner let us know he gladly would toss me into the sea and surprisingly enough some friends spontaneously came up with some 10 Euro notes if he would do so. Unnecessary to say we had a great time.

The restaurant was so new, there were no businesscards available.

Business hours: From noon till late at night.

Favorite Dish: I started with salmon and had "Ossehaas" (South American beef) for the main course.
Desert was some raspberries and the most delicious icecream I ever had.

    Pizza Service: Just Pizza

    by pieter_jan_v Written Jun 23, 2006

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pizza Service is a place to get a crusty fresh pizza; nothing more, nothing less.

A drink with your pizza is possible, but forget a starter or a dessert.

From the first floor you have a good view at the Bellamy park and all the bars around it.

The furniture survived a lot of guest, nothing fancy.

If you like, you can select your own pizza toppings.

    Favorite Dish: Pizza Quattro Stagioni.

De Kajuit: Typical local pub culture

by Airpunk Written Aug 31, 2013

Typical old-style Dutch pub which seems to be pupular with the locals. Good to get some impression of down to earth pub culture. In accordance with the ciy's maritime tradition, it has a lot of decoration related to the sea inside.

Next to typical pub food such as sandwiches, you will get a good variety of beers, inlcuding some of the stronger abbey beers which a popular in the southern parts of the Netherlands.
