Vlissingen is the end station on the line from Roosendaal.
The station is located next to the passenger/bicycle ferry to Breskens.
The bus station is in front.

Walking to the city is possible, but you have to cross the locks of the Canal.

    Ferry to Breskens

To get to Breskens at the other side of the Schelde river you can take the BBA Zeeland Fast passengers/bicycle ferry.

This used to be a car ferry but since the opening of the Westerschelde tunnel in March 16, 2003 this service stopped.

The ferrystop is next to the Vlissingen train station.

    From/To Vlissingen by train

by Airpunk Updated Aug 29, 2013

Due to its geographical situation, Zeeland is not well connected by train. The only train line however is well frequented and has its terminus in Vlissingen. There are trains running every 30 minutes to Rotterdam (via Rosendaal and Dordrecht), many of them continuing to the Hague, Amsterdam and Lelystad. As of 2013, a train ticket from Vlissingen to Rotterdam (or vice versa) was 19,00 EUR.

Note that the train station is a 20 minute walk away from the city centre (or a 6 minute bus ride with line 56). You can choose between the northern way along the canal and some industrial sites or the slighly longer walk along the coast.

I flew into Amsterdam from London, knowing that there was no aiport in Vlissingen. Plus I was able to get a cheap EasyJet flight 3 weeks in advance. When I arrived in Amsterdam, I quickly headed for the train terminals, where I purchased a one way ticket (I was infact met by someone at the airport) so there was a deal that was going on, 2 people weekend fare, we took the train on a Friday and it allowed the two of us to travel the 3hr train journey to the south of Holland, for about 39 euros.

It's also possible to fly into Rotterdam, as the same train goes through there. Mind though, Dutch trains are known to be very precise with time keeping, so it's best to make sure that you are early for the train as they won't wait! The Vlissgen train station, was quite boring looking, and I then regretted not having more comfortable shoes on to walk it to the town centre where I was to stay, it was about 20mins or so.

The website link below just show you the stops along the routes and the timings. a ticket can be purchased directly from cashiers in the airport or Amsterdam town centre.

  • Ferry or tunnel?

We wanted to go over to Belgium and in all my maps there was a ferry service from Vlissingen to Breskens. We searched for the ferry port for a while wondering why the ferry is only signposted for cyclists. We were joking "Maybe it's a bicycle ferry". And how right we were. We finally found the ferryport and were told that the ferry was only for footpassengers and cyclists.

There's a new tunnel connecting Zeeland with the south now. It was built only recently .. apparently after my maps had been published. The Westerscheldetunnel connects Goes (near Vlissingen) in Zuid-Beveland with Terneuzen in Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen, toll to go through for cars is 4,10 Euro.

    Cyclists can follow these signs!
