Christmas markets 2007: Sundays 16 and 23 December

Each year there are two Christmas markets in Brielle along the main street Nobelstraat/Voorstraat.

For 2007 it is on Sunday 16 and Sunday 23 December 2007. From about 12-17 hrs.

In 2006 I rented a stall and sold goodies to raise money for the local Food Bank. We raised € 500!
In 2007 I did it again with some friends. This time the chosen charity is Refugee Work in Brielle. And we earned € 350 !

What to buy: At my stall you will be able to buy alcohol free appleglühwein, waffles from Drenthe (a New Year's eve speciality), and there's a Grabbelton for young and old. These are little gifts, wrapped up and for 1 euro you can choose any. Then be surprised at what you get!

Of course it's lovely to browse all the other stalls. There will be very big Christmas trees all along the street, live music and horse and carriage with Santa, of course.

What to pay: Everything under 5 euro at my stall.

Parfumerie Blush! Brielle

My neigbhour across the road is a wonderful beauty shop with all the expected good brands. It's the elaborate and knowledgeable advice and the time they take to give it to you, that makes this shop special.

What to buy: Apart from the top market brands, you can also get beauty treatments. And at a very friendly price too. I just had one with the Rémy Laure brand. This brand has a natural mud mask which heals the skin.

What to pay: A mini-facial (cleansing, mask, cream, make-up) takes an hour and costs € 22,50. Just go and make an appointment.

BRIELLE ANTIQUE MARKET

In summer there are various open-air markets. Like this antique market. I found some plates and other crockery to complete a friends set. Great deal!

Please wait until I can put up the dates for the 2008 summer markets. They are not yet known.

Op Hoop speciality shop for boating people

Everything you need for your sailing boat or motor boat. These people have run this shop for ages and can mend sails or get you anything you need.
I like to browse for good sailing clothes or little gifts for friends with boats.

Catrijn: Italian specialities

A brand new shop that opened last October (2007) with Italian delicacies such as meat cuts, cheeses, pasta's and all sorts of gifts. They also sell freshly ground coffee beans in different varieties, and wines.

What to pay: I spent €32,62 on my first visit, on cheeses, prosciutto and rhum baba's. I got to taste everything first!
Another € 46,20 was spent on gifts. So you see, not a shop that is safe for the purse. But definitely fun, with friendly people.

BRIELLE OLD PRINTS SHOP

One of my very favourite shops with old prints.
I admire Jan Bazen's craftmanship a lot and often sit to chat with him and watch him work.
He knows everything about any print in his shop even though there are thousands of them and always knows where to find what you ask for.

BRIELLE SHOP APICIUS

The category Home Furnishings doesn't quite cover what this shop has to offer.
High quality kitchen and dinner ware, as well as kitchen appliances (espresso machines for instance) and good advice.
Really a shop for browsing.

Brielle toy shop

Children --and people who have children to buy for -- will love this shop. There's even a friendly shop dog: Joep the Airedale.

What to buy: There are all kinds of toys, games, books, and videos, everything from dolls to bicycles.

Such goodies you can buy here! I come here weekly for extra large eggs, lots of cheese and olives, special hams and great advice. You need that advice, because you can do countless things with cheese.

A typical Dutch fishmonger's stall, here in Brielle. You will find these all over The Netherlands.
This fish stall sells top quality raw herring (Hollandse Nieuwe). In fact, in 2002 it was the second best in the whole Netherlands according to the yearly herring test by a national newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
