Favorite thing: Maassluis is a town in the Western Netherlands, in the Province of South Holland (Zuid-Holland). MAASSLUIS was founded circa 1346 as a settlement next to a lock (sluis) in the sea barrier between the North Sea and Rotterdam.
It is also our home away from home as Hans' sister Nel lives here and we always stay with them when in the Netherlands.
I love going to the Centrum and the Harbour area. Love the little shops like the Cheese Shop and the Blokker and the Pastry Shop. And I really like walking along the Canal where you usually see ducks and swans swimming.

Favorite thing: Located in the Dutch Province of Zuid-Holland and 5 km east of Gouda is the lovely town of HAASTRECHT. As Hans and I drove along the N 228 and the Hollandsche Ijssel, we came through this town. There were banners everywhere, in preparation for the Europe Cup Soccer Game.

Favorite thing: The first university in the Netherlands was founded in 1575 in Leiden. Before that there was only one university in the low countries (in Leuven, Belgium).
Today it still is a prestigious university, where traditionally our Royal family studies.

Favorite thing: Walking along the water of the Heimanswetering i saw this ship passing by.
The ship is owned by the scouting Alphen a/d Rijn.
Built in 1913 at the wharf “De vooruitgang” in Alphen. It measures 35.66 meter by 4.98 meter.
The ship is passing one of the windmills in Zuid-Holland. In total there are 220 windmills in Zuid-Holland, it is the province with the highest number of windmills.
The windmill is the Vrouwgeestmolen in Alphen a/d Rijn.

Favorite thing: Zuid Holland is the province with the highest number of inhabitants (3.400.000) in our country. With an area of 2944 square km , we still have some space left. It is called the green heart and is a green area between the 4 big cities, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Amsterdam and Utrecht. There is much discussion on how and why to keep it green.
The picture is an example of this green.... a meadow and a city in the background. The houses you see belong to Alphen a/d Rijn.
