This brand new restaurant (opened summer 2013) is situated in the old centre, overlooking the harbour especially in good weather when you can sit outside.
The restaurant may be brand new but it's opened in one of the historical old buildings and named after the most famous admiral of The Netherlands: Michiel de Ruyter.
It may look a bit formal but the atmosphere is relaxed, the lobsters are quietly awaiting there fate in the bassin, the cooks have time for a smile while they work in the kitchen, the waiter checks when and how we want our drinks and calls down the owner/chef when we expressed an interest in his old butcher's block.
Most important, the restaurant is threequarters full on a Tuesday evening.
Favorite Dish: Currently (2013), there is a 4 course surprise menu at 29.50 euro. I enjoyed the salad with Italian ham and balsamico, a lightly spiced curry soup with apple, duck breast with plenty of roasted vegs (string beans, samfire, carrot, potato) and the parsnip crips....oh, I could've eaten a bowl of those! Dessert was a generous slice of tiramisu and cream with a scoop of melon ice cream.
All very good looking plates of food and very enjoyable.
Now, the menu has plenty of dishes that I would love to eat: oysters, lobster, extra long cured meat...These people know their stuff.
I've just eaten at Yoe Yi again, as we speak. We find this the best Chinese restaurant in Hellevoetsluis. Always a warm welcome and good quality food.
Usually Chinese restaurants serve some free prawn crackers to start off the meal and first drink. This restaurant has, without a doubt, the best home made free crackers. Freshly fried, spicy and....this is unusual: you get a big full plate!
Favorite Dish: A la carte is excellent. Special wishes can be catered for too. Today I tried the buffet for the first time. It's a bit cheaper since you help yourself and you can eat all you like.
Not your usual idea of a Greek restaurant. That's just the interior which is Greek but modern at the same time. The hospitality is definitely Greek: warm and welcoming.
You can sit inside and outside and enjoy one of the harbours of Hellevoetsluis with a view of historical buildings.
It's open daily from 16-23 hrs.
Favorite Dish: One of the specialities I think is the tapas-style Greek menu which gives you a sampling of many Greek dishes. Although I must say 'sampling' is hardly possible in Greek cuisine where the portions are generous. 2-course is 27.50 euro.
Any dietary wishes are well catered for.
All you want in this wok restaurant. First there is chinese soup and little starters like samosa/spring roll kind of bites. Then you choose from a buffet of uncooked food whatever you like (fish, meat, vegetables) which you bring to the wok cook to prepare with a sauce of your choice. Then you choose from the buffet rice, fried rice, noodles, etc.
You can use the buffet as much as you like for the fixed price.
Favorite Dish: Tues-Thurs:: € 21,95 p.p.
Fri-Sun, national holidays: € 23,95 p.p.
Kids 4-10yrs: € 12,95 p.p.
Desserts and drinks are charged separately.
Note: no creditcards accepted!
This Restaurant is located in Hellevoetsluis just outside de vesting on a big open water named Haringvliet. This is a very beautiful location for a restaurant. The food is always in a different style. A very fine restaurant
Favorite Dish: Try the T-bone , it just melts in your mouth
I go here frequently for a quick meal. In fact, we ate a 3 course meal tonight (16-9-2010) within the hour.
Ah well, it's not your romantic or culinary night out. But the food and service are good.
Favorite Dish: The meal consisted of a small starter (3 small spring rolls or a soup), then 4 meat dishes (chicken, ribs, beef and crispy pork) with rice and noodles, an ice cream.
This 3-course meal for two persons costs 36 euro (see photo).
The restaurant, like all Chinese restaurants, does takeaway as well.
If you are going to the theatre, it's the perfect place to eat because it's in the same building as the theatre Twee Hondjes. Name and ownership has recently changed, so I don't know yet if the food is as good as it was before.
a bar restaurant in the old part of Hellevoetsluis, with a great atmosphere.
The quality of the food is fine and the price will surprise you
Favorite Dish: The ribs are famous and you can eat as much you like for the same price
You must try the giant home made hamburger!!
After your dinner you can enjoy a fine drink at the bar and play pool on the official table
Bakery annex lunchroom with an outside terrace where in summer you can enjoy life in the harbour. Lots of sailing yachts pass by the bridge.
This is a good place to have lunch and many workers from the nearby Town Hall do so :-)
That's why I come here regularly, if my friend and I want to catch up during her lunch hour!
Favorite Dish: Anything from soup, sandwiches, fried eggs, croquettes... quality is fine, service is friendly.
Price example for 2 persons:
1 apple juice
1 sandwich smoked salmon
1 sandwich tuna
for a grand total of € 24,35 (2007)
Set next to the harbour entry with ample space for (free) parking. Enjoy the water and watersports going on right in front of you. Big terrace.
Favorite Dish: 21-4-2005
Tea, 1,75 euro
tomato juice, 2,10 euro
Goat cheese and honey salad, 9, 25 euro
2 croquettes and bread, 6,50 euro
curry soup with chicken and apple, 4 euro
My absolute favourite is the gamba piri-piri.
It is a starter but if you have a soup first and then the gamba, then you have a full meal.
The gamba come in an ovenproof dish, covered with a clear buttery quite spicy sauce. You ask for extra bread to dip it in. Delicious!
New built restaurant on the terrain of the dry dock Jan Blanken.
But it doesn't look new! Its architecture fits perfectly in the historical surroundings.
Stylish grand café/brasserie and upstairs restaurant with good easy chairs, not too big but intimate.
If you want to know about the dry dock, visit www.droogdok.nl (Dutch only)
Favorite Dish: We ate with a party of 9 persons and spent on average € 45 each (including drinks).
- 3 January 2002 -
I ate homemade black pudding with stewed apple and fried gooseliver. Then a rare steak with almost raw gooseliver and for dessert grilled pineapple with a mango sorbet with ginger and red chilies.
This is a popular and busy restaurant annex pub. Really good food.
Favorite Dish: Fresh mussels, cooked.
Sunfish with mustard sauce and mushrooms.
Very good spare ribs (normal and texmex)
The menu is imaginative and has influences from all over the world.
