The beach in Hoek van Holland

The wide beach at Hoek van Holland is heaven for flying a kite, going for a walk, watching big ships coming from Europoort, relaxing in the sun with a drink ...

Its location is great, too. It's only a short trip by car away from The Hague or Rotterdam and still it's a different world. The beach is located behind dunes so the only hint of the "outside world" are ships that come to and from Europoort all the time. Which makes walking along the beach a lot more interesting. Apart from shells and the waves you can also see big container ships, England ferries and sailing boats.

When I was here (please note that it was never on a hot summer day) it never was too crowded and there always was enough wind - perfect for flying a kite!

And when you are thirsty or hungry there are some nice beach bars to choose from. Wonderful and oh so relaxing!

Walk around in The Fort At Hoek van Holland

We went with our company to this historic monument. This monument is over 100 years old and has lot's of rooms and stairs. It was built as a coastal defence and now is managed by volunteers. You can visit it at their regular opening times or outside these times with a group of minimum 10 people

    Pilots on the Nieuwe Waterweg

Hoek van Holland is an ideal watching place.

Along the Nieuwe Waterweg, the waterway to Rotterdam, there are many spots to watch people and/or the boats in the waterway.

A visit to the storm surge barrier is must if one wants to see the lengths the Dutch have gone to to prevent a recurrence of the 1953 floods.
