The wide beach at Hoek van Holland is heaven for flying a kite, going for a walk, watching big ships coming from Europoort, relaxing in the sun with a drink ...
Its location is great, too. It's only a short trip by car away from The Hague or Rotterdam and still it's a different world. The beach is located behind dunes so the only hint of the "outside world" are ships that come to and from Europoort all the time. Which makes walking along the beach a lot more interesting. Apart from shells and the waves you can also see big container ships, England ferries and sailing boats.
When I was here (please note that it was never on a hot summer day) it never was too crowded and there always was enough wind - perfect for flying a kite!
And when you are thirsty or hungry there are some nice beach bars to choose from. Wonderful and oh so relaxing!
