The Royal Van Lent Shipyard is specialised in the construction of hi-tech modern yachts up to 80 meters. The company was grounded in 1849 and started with a wooden machine shop and slips.
In 1949 Feadship, First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders was grounded, a cooperation between Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw at Aalsmeer, Royal Van Lent Shipyard at Kaag and De Voogt Naval Architects at Haarlem. They share modern shipyards, the latest in ship design and an engineering support office.
From the mid-fifties the shipyard mainly makes steel and aluminum ships.
