 | Noordwijk aan Zee Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 18 | | Noordwijk’s beach is 14 km long. It borders to Katwijk on one side and to Zanvoord on the other. We were there after the summer season and people were walking lots of dogs, flying kites etc. You can also collect small shells in places. The use of the beach is free but there are lots of rules that apply. Leave a Comment

When we visited, it was the day of the open monuments. So this church was open to the public. In the first room there is a small organ and they held an art exhibition. In the main church hall there was another organ. Leave a Comment Directions: A few meters from the Queen Wilhelmina Promenade on the main drag through the center.

It is told Noordwijk got its name by a Benedictine munk whose name was Jeroen van Noordwijk. He build the oldest chapel and was loved all around. It is a shame he died as martyr when he got beheaded after tortured by Norsemen in 856 AD, 17th of August. People returned to the chapel, enlarged the small chapel, and it became a well-known place of pilgrimage with the head of St Jeroen as bizar relic ... The in gotic-styled St Jeroen Church got legendary around the 16th century because the head of St Jeroen was lost after a big fire in 1450 AD without leaving a trace. People tried to find the head of St Jeroen, however it was never refound. In 1983 a skull was found of a young man, so it wasnot the one of St Jeroen! I love legends and myth ... Leave a Comment

Maybe it looks some odd that the seaside resort has such a beautiful boulevard, and the dunes do seperate the area of beach and ocean from the boulevard. Well, remember the dunes are the protecting fact from entering any huge wave into the low land of the Netherlands ... So when going for the beach there are very nice paths to reach the famous North Sea. Sorry for this dark photograph which really looks like thunder and storm. Remember the Netherlands got famous, too, for its very huge clouds... *smile* Leave a Comment Address: Coast of NoordwijkDirections: Beach area from Noordwijk

We stayed at the official Youth Hostel - http://www.stayokay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Herbergen.showHomeHB&id=26&lng=2 Rooms in the Youth Hostel were good and spacious - there is a bar. If you are with a Group the Youth Hostel can lay on activities for a fee - we did Scootering and on the beach we did Kite Surfing, Canoeing, White Water Rafting and - err - yes - Sumo Wrestling
|
There is a Pub directly accross the road from the Youth Hostel that serves food which is ok but has very disgusting flavoured lollipops.
|
In the city center there's a whole road full of shops in which you can find clothes, souvenirs, postcards, etc...

One of the most known things about Noordwjik are probably the dunes. They are nice all over the place, but the area near 'Edensduin' is one of the best. There are some roads and paths for walking, crossing the dunes and going between them. Superb place for a nice walk (or jogging). It could be hard to believe that the places like that exist in the northwest corners of the Europe. Can't describe the beauty of the place - you have to see it yourself. Leave a Comment Directions: Northwards from the boulevards. Near Duinweg.

You may walk along the promenade or boulevard of Noordwijk. In summertime it is a very wonderful way to enjoy the walk though when stormy weather ... it is gorgeous, too! It is exciting, it is mysterious, it is even very "Hitchcock" ... When you get the chance to explore such a dark walk in Noordwijk see some wonderful appartments along the promenade ... maybe you see a prominent tenant, 'cause even Mr. Heineken used to go for a walk or visit here ... ofcourse in summertime all looks more brilliant, sunny and ... gay Leave a Comment Address: Promenade, NoordwijkDirections: Along the beach of Noordwijk
