oh, visit everything. There's modern architecture and old busy areas where non-European cultures are dominant. 60% of the Rotterdammers are actually not originally Dutch. There's culture and shopping, and the river Maas.
Fondest memory: Well, one must make a choice. The Erasmus bridge brought great style to my favourite city.
The metropolis Rotterdam has a population of 1.2 million, comprising many different nationalities. Rotterdam is compact and varied. Everyone can live the way they want, in the city or in the green belt, in detached houses or in an apartment. And where else could you find the same variety in recreational and entertainment facilities. The city has many facilities: Rotterdam Airport; 299 educational institutes, including the Erasmus University Rotterdam; 512 sports and recreation facilities, including Blijdorp Zoological Gardens; 18 shopping malls, including the Beurstraverse and the Lijnbaan; 3 football stadiums; hotels in various categories.
It would certainly be a pity not to visit at least one of the many attractions that Rotterdam has to offer during the European Championships 2000. And even more so in view of the fact that many are taking advantage of the occasion to organize special European Championship events. The most famous Rotterdam attractions include the Euromast, the Spido, the Tropicana swimming baths and The Laserzone.
admire the many new, very modern, very interesting and impressive buildings. Because of the tragic fact that in the second World War the city centre was destroyed in a bombardment there was 'room' for a brand new centre, This city is so completely different from Amsterdam and yet so typically Dutch that I think people should pay more attention to it, Rotterdam deserves that. So go and have a good look around, see the skyscrapers, climb the Euromast, have a harbourtrip through the largest harbour of the WORLD, visit the Maritime Museum or....discover the Dutch countryside by bike starting from Rotterdam. These tours are offered by 'SPINNING WHEELS' info: 06-50988357. There are 5 different tours of 35-45 km.
Of course there is a wonderful ZOO in Rotterdam with the name BLIJDORP
Fondest memory: my many visits to this city, which give me the opportunity to discover and to love this city, especially the architecture, because it is the City of Architecture by excellence. The archicentre offers visitors special tours and walks past examples of high-rise building by international architects as Jahn, Foster and Piano and the city also boasts modern architecture from our own Koolhaas, Quist, Klunder, Hoogstad, Bonnema, Blom en Weeber..
These are the cubic houses of Piet Blom and the building with the yellow tubes around it is the Public Library
