Mockamore: Coffee, anyone?
The interior deco is new and modern, it was rather busy and have to wait for a seat.
This is a 'SELF-SERVICE' cafe, so you need to order and serve it yourself.
They have bagels, some sandwiches as well the famous Dudok cakes.
Favorite Dish: Like the fresh brew coffee.
A nice break for chilling after a hard day shopping around the centre of Rotterdam.

de smaack van africa: great surroundings
We had a lovely authentic meal at a very reasonable price. My partner had the traditional bread and fish dish which came with instructions on how to eat. It was just good fun! I loved the paintings on the walls!
Favorite Dish: fish and banana
ShabuShabu Sushi Restaurant: Eat All You Can
It is a new Japanese restaurant in the city, at West Blaak. My Romanian friend and I who are crazy about Sushi went to have a dinner after work on Friday evening. The weekend price per person is EUR22.50, varies according to the time and day.
For the first timers, there was an introduction by a waitress on our table. With the fix price, we can order till 8 round in 2 hours time. Maximum 5 orders per person per round. All from the cold sushi menu, till the grill, baked, cooked or fried.
Drinks are not included in the price.
Big eyes, good. But we gave up to go for the fourth round. Almost couldn't finish the food on 3rd round (took 3 orders per person), otherwise we would have to pay for the unfinished food.
We ended up paying EUR35 per person including drinks and tips.
Tips for you: Don't drink too much, and don't waste time talking if you want to reach the 8th round for little money.
Favorite Dish: We tried most from the cold menu, tried some from the grill and they are all lovely.
Siriporn: Thai food
Enjoyable food at reasonable prices (to our Dutch standards anyway). Most main courses around 16 euro.
Next to the restaurant is a Thai shop where you can browse to your hearts content!
Opening hours: Tue-Thur 16.30-22.30 hrs and Fri-Sun 12-22.30 hrs.
Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the shrimp in green curry, coconut milk, peppers, Thai basil and eggplant. It was spicy and good.
A little warning: the fish sauce (essentially a fermented fluid) may not be to everybody's taste. It was recognised as authentic. I liked it a lot.
The crunchy deepfried shrimp, fried beef and fish cakes were also good.
We spent 55 euro for 2 persons, including drinks. Coffee was on the house.
Restaurant La Ruche: At De Bijenkorf
Restaurant La Ruche is part of the high class Bijenkorf department store.
The restaurant at the upper floor is very modern and open with high class food presented in a buffet, so you can quickly have your meal and drinks.

Shabu Shabu: All-ypu-can-eat Japanese food!
Shabu Shabu is one of the hotspots of Rotterdam! They serve fresh traditional Japanese food and sushi. You pay a fixed amount and can order a number of small dishes from the menu. When you finshed you dishes you can order again and again, but you need to be finsihed within two hours. The food is delicious and the restaurant is very popular. You need to make a reservation if you would like to for dinner because the restaurant is always fully booked. With lunch there are usually free tables available.
Favorite Dish: They serve a great salmon and mushrooms!
Pssst Amigo!: Mexican food
This restaurant is on the second floor. The decoration is really nice in the theme and the serviceis really good. You usually don't need a reservation.
Favorite Dish: The Horco del Bandido is a mixed grill that's very special. I loved it!
Basso Pasta Enzo: Good Italian Food - Fairly Poor Service
Dinner was at Basso Pasta Enzo, a Italian restaurant in a small building on the Coolsingel road.
First impressions were not great, the restaurant looked nice but after asking for an English menu I was handed a Dutch one. Asked another waiter for an English menu. He picked one up, walked straight past and left it on an empty table.
Eventually, got to place the order.
Favorite Dish: Started with ‘Taste of Italy’ (7.50 Euro). This could not be faulted at all!
A large plated filled with salad, ham, mozzarella balls, gorgonzola, parmesan chunks, olives and sun dried tomatoes.
Main course was equally delicious; papardelle pasta with minced veal balls in a truffle sauce (15 Euro) coupled with a carafe of red wine (10.50 Euro).
This could have been a fantastic meal if it wasn’t for the poor service.
By the time the main course had arrived it wasn’t exactly warm and once I was three quarters of the way through it was cold and if there is one thing that doesn’t work its re-heated pasta.
Finished with an espresso. Not a difficult order, infact the order was taken just after the plates were cleared but fifteen minutes later it hadn’t arrived, the waiter had forgotten the order.
This seemed to sum up the restaurant scene as a whole in Rotterdam (at least from my experience) food is good or excellent but service is terrible with very forgetful (but friendly) staff.
If they pull their socks up they would have several good restaurants rather than several fair ones.
Get Back: Get Back? - I wouldn't go back!
Get Back is close to being a decent restaurant but let down by the service.
The 70's/80's disco themed bar/restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. I sat outside under a heater.
Despite the name and obvious theme there was little in the way of music despite getting there for around 8 o'clock on a Friday night.
Eventually after a fairly long wait, my order was taken.
The food was nice enough (their menu is available online), however, they forgot to bring the main course!
Once they had finally realised their mistake, they put together a more expensive main course but still only charged for the original order.
There was another disappointment, they wanted to charge 50c to use the toilets.
A rather angry looking lady demanded I pay up. I'm sorry but when you are paying around 40 Euros for a meal you expect the toilets to be free of charge. I just said that I'd left my money at the table and left quickly without paying.
Favorite Dish: I started with Carpaccio a particular favourite of mine and this was a good example, served with balsamic vinegar, pine nuts and parmesan.
The main course of steak and potatoes were also good.
Didn't bother ordering desert, I didn't fancy another huge delay!
Nice food but there are better places in the town to eat. Rotterdam seems to be quite an expensive place so with that in mind the costs are quite reasonable (about 5 Euro for starter, mains from 10 Euro)
The staff were mostly cheerful and friendly but the standard of service really needs to improve.
Los Toros: The Best Steak in Town
The best steak in town...well, so they say!
I have to say, it was a very nice meal costing about 20 Euros per person.
Great food and nice settings.
I sat upstairs on a seat made of cow hide, next to a window. The picture on the wall opposite was created using hide also.
There are large tables for groups in the centre of the room and several smaller tables for couples around the side.
It is a fairly large restaurant with seating over two floors.
Their website does contain a menu but only in Dutch.
Favorite Dish: Started with two chorizo sausages. These are like old fashioned beef sausages not the usual thing associated with the name chorizo.
Next was a 300g rare steak (slightly more like medium to me but nice all the same) and side dish of grilled vegetables.
All washed down with some red wine.
Bram Ladage: Voted among the best french fries in NL
French Fries are originally from Belgium and so, they also became popular in the Netherlands. Confused? No problem, the most important thing is that the dutch love fries. Many dishes you get in restaurants come with them, more than you are used to in other countries. They have earned their place in the rich dutch fast food culture. And the temple of this culture is Bram Ladage. This chain is renowned for very good french fries in the Rotterdam area. The variety of sauces is not really high, but beside fries, also other fast food snacks (burgers, frikandel etc.) are offered.
Favorite Dish: I had their fries with pindasaus. Nothing to die for, but indeed good fries!
Shabu shabu: Sushi, eat all you can
Eat all you can for € 16 at lunch or € 19,50 at dinner. But beware: you have to pay for what you have ordered but did not eat.
You order a max. of 8 different dishes per person in one go, but you can go on doing that until you have had enough.
At lunch I made it to 10 dishes.
Favorite Dish: The sushi were nice and so was the seaweed salad. I was less charmed by the tempura. Too greasy and the vegetable sushi was unexpectedly heavy. Ask for the pickled ginger because it isn't served automatically.
City center: Straight from the stone oven
A small local place - where every dish comes from the stone oven. The ambience is classy and but relaxed. You can observe how the owner prepares everything straight from the stone oven
Favorite Dish: The many changes daily - you eat what they serve. You can choose between 4 or 6 dishes
