    Cambrinus: Beer and more

This pub is popular with students and known for its fair prices. The atmosphere can be described as “gezellig”, the typical dutch word for cozy. If you are lucky to get a table to the south, you’ll have a look at the old harbour. The tables to the north have just a view on the busy Blaak street, but on the other side you will see a couple of interesting buildings. Out of view, but directly over this restaurant, you will find the Kubuswoningen (Cube houses), so that the location is unique indeed.

Favorite Dish: Cambrinus offers a daily dish for a small price of 4,00 EUR. It’s not a large portion, but if you order some fries for 1,60 EUR (from which you will get a large portion), then you will be satisfied. Although Dommelsch is the preferred beer in this restaurant, the choice of beers is pretty large (over 250). So, whatelse do you need for a gezellig evening?

Oude Haven area: Bars & restaurants with terraces at the waterfront

Around the Oude Haven there are several bars and restaurants with terraces at the old harbour. It's a nice place to sit for a drink during the day or in the evening.

It's close to the Cubic Houses and close to the Maasboulevard. The contrast between the traditional boats in the harbour and the modern architecture of the cubic houses is striking.

I visited several bars and terraces, cannot remember all the names, but anyway Cambrinus, Kade 4, Villa Kakelbont and a Mexican restaurant Popocatepetl (the last name I could only remember because I made a picture of the colourful sign).

Favorite Dish: The last time I took a salad and a cool drink at the terrace of Kade 4.

Terrace of Kade 4 at the Oude Haven Many bars and restaarants around

A superb Italian restaurant at the Mariniersweg near Blaak metro station. You can eat a la carte or bistro (much cheaper!). They claim to import most of their ingredients straight from Napels by plane. Let the experts decide if that is true….

eat at one of the many restaurants in the 'Oudehaven'. On a sunny day it is lovely to sit on the water there and there are lots of restaurants to choose from.
