Rotterdam: where you can shop 'til you drop in covered shopping facilities or right outside in the fresh air! Several shopping areas are now restricted to pedestrian traffic only so there's no watching out for cars when shopping in the Lijnbaan and the Beurstraverse. Luxury department stores in the city centre, trendy and really different shops on Witte de Withstraat and Van Oldebarneveldstraat, the old-fashioned narrow shopping streets on Oude and Nieuwe Binnenweg, and exotic shops offering all kinds of Asian products on West Kruiskade. Every day of the week Most shops are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; many open on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and close on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. On Friday evenings, shops are opened later, until 9:00 p.m. in Rotterdam. Most shops in the city centre are also open on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. "A lot for a little" is always for sale at Rotterdam's age-old traditional markets. With over 500 stalls, the market in the city centre is the largest market in the Netherlands. Fruit, vegetables, clothing, textiles and flowers - the market has it all.
Rotterdam has a lot to offer, if you are coming for shopping. One of the places where you will find lots of shops and departmentstores like C&A and Hema, is the lower part of Het Beursplein, the so-called 'koop goot' (shopping gutter).
In this pedestrian area are many fashion shops. If you are looking for a new outift -casual or more dressed up- and not up to something really exclusive, this is the place to be. Besides shirts, jeans, shoes and other fashion items for men, women and kids, you will find sportwear, jewellery, books, postcards, gifts, food, drinks, electronics, music and more.
The shops at the Koopgoot are open for 7 days a week. So you can spend your money at sundays as well.
The 'koopgoot' is a large shopping "gutter".
You'll find everyhting you could ever need, at this shoppingmall. Books, jewelry, gifts, home furnishing, men's, woman and children clothing, shoes, sporting goods, music, discount store, electronics, food, drinks, bath and beauty and more...architecture!
The Beurs Traverse is the main shopping center in Rotterdam. You will find various shops like Hema (cheap convenience products), Timberland, Swatch, Dockers and Haagen Dasz. It has a very modern and friendly appearance. Beurs Traverse forms a subterranean link between the two sides of the Coolsingel. In the summer water comes from the ground (don’t worry: you will not become wet!).
De Beurstraverse a.k.a. "De Koopgoot" is Rotterdam best known new shpping street.
It is constructed one floor down of the Coolsingel street, which is underpassed.
The construction was part of the development of the Beursplein and the Beurs World Trade Center Rotterdam. The ever increasing number of pedestrians forced the City Counsil to reconstruct this part of downtown several times. Through traffic is limited and the area is less accessable by car.
The following businesses are located at the Koopgoot:

This is some sort of tunnel, going underneath the Coolsingel, connecting both sides. It's filled with shops, some of them also go on above ground, others are only one floor. You can go here to mainly buy clothing, shoes and beauty articles. A movie also was shot here, Who am I, with Jacky Chan.
In the city centre you will find a lot of shops in the "basement", there is a long path with shops on both sides one level down from ground floor. These shops are mainly chain-stores, so don't go looking in there for unique shops, but if you want clothes, shoes, sports articels, mobile phones, and so on, you can find it here.
For more unique shops you can walk on to the east 'Meent', 'Pannekoekstraat', Hoogstraat, 'Goudse Singel' and 'Mariniersweg'. Or towards the west to 'Oude Binnenweg' and 'Nieuwe Binnenweg'. And for a interesting cultural experience go to the 'West Kruiskade' know as chinatown, but you will find shops from many different cultures.
De Bijenkorf is a chain of department stores in the Netherlands.
The Rotterdam branch is a modern building at the crossing of the Coolsingel and the so-called "Koopgoot". The original building, designed by the famous architect Dudok opened in 1930, but was destroyed in the early days of World War II.
You'll find high class merchandise, from music and souvenirs in the basement, through fashion and household items on the upper floors.
On the groundfloor popular items like candy, book and magazines and other consumables are on sale.
the "shopping gutter" of Rotterdam basically is an architectural subterranean link between the two sides of the Coolsingel. (Below streetlevel)
It's one of the largest continuous collection of shops in Europe.
Here you can find all famous chainstores and other stores, and shop till you drop!
What to buy:
My favourite shops in the beurstraverse are:
-Expo (where you can by all kinds of funny gifts and souvenirs)
-SIX (cheap jewelery)
-Douglas (perfumes)
-Yves Rocher (natural beautyshop)
-Zara Fashion
-H&M
-HEMA (a departmentstore where you just have to try the hotdogs!)
The so called "Koopgoot" is the more common name for what officially is called Beurstraverse. Litterly translated it means "Buying-gutter". It's a lower level in a big shoppingstreet that has a big amount of - mostly fashion- shops. The Koopgoot is opened 7 days a week, which makes Rotterdam together with Amsterdam the only two cities that have their shops open on sundays.
What to buy:
And what to buy in the Koopgoot? Well... shoes, jeans, shirts, jackets, close to anything you can possibly wear. And if this part is not big enough, all the streets around it have even more shops.
