    FEYENOORD JOOP REUVERS

On June 24th 2003 I visited the stadion while escaping an office party that I was attending there.
I had never been in "De Kuip" and watched a match between two unimportant teams for a few minutes. Decided to walk up between the seats to get a better view. An older gentleman was sitting there alone, smoking a fat cigar and nodding at me kindly. So I walked over and he got up to shake hands with me. Do you come here often, I asked him. Oh yes, he replied. You see, he was honorary member of Feyenoord, a former board member of the club and also a former player. He wore a special decoration on his jacket to prove it. He explained a little bit about the stadion and the matches.
So I made this photo of him and even if I don't like football, it made my visit quite special!.

    De Kuip, Rotterdam

When in Rotterdam you must visit the most beautiful stadium of the Netherlands (and maybe whole Europe!) You can arrange for a tour through the stadium or watch on of the matches of Feyenoord. The stadium has a capacity of 51.000 seats, divided over a zone on groundlevel, 1st level or 2rd level.

Tickets are available at the desks on the 'North-North-East'-side of the stadium, reachable by bus.

Equipment: The stadium dates from 1938 and was renovated in 1994. Nowadays people speak about a whole new stadium. There are even plans to make the new one floating on a pontoon in the river!

    The Kuip

The Kuip is a mythical stadium. In French means "le chaudron", which is the recipient where druids used to make magical potions...

Anyway, Feyenoord is a mythical team too. The other Dutch one being obviously Ajax Amsterdam.

Saw one game at the Kuip for Dutch cup, between Feyenoord and Vitesse Arnhem. Good level. The stadium is really beautiful and you will have a good soccer experience. What I least appreciated was a part of the audience, huge shaved head men throwing beer cups on the field and being aggressive... One Dutch friend told me some of them made gas sound effects when Ajax was playing vs Feyenoord... For the little story, Ajax has been historically owned by Jewish people...

Feyenoord Rotterdam is one of the major teams of the Netherlands. They have won the Europe cup 1, two times the UEFA cup and have won the Dutch championship many times. They play their home games at the beautiful Feyenoord Stadium 'De Kuip'. This stadium has been the host of the final of the European Championships in 2000. On your visit to Rotterdam you can visit one of the games of Feyenoord. Tickets can be bought at the Feyenoord internet site.

Equipment: Bring some red and white clothes, because these are Feyenoord colors.

If you want to see the players of Feyenoord footballclub in action, but you are not in the possibility of attending a match in the stadium, attending a training is a good alternative. These trainings are almost daily and are for free.

Right in front of the Feyenoord Stadium (De Kuip) you'll see the trainingspitch where you can see the players train and playing around. And after the training you can normally talk with the players too and ask them for a authograph if you want.

For the latest traininghours you should check out Feyenoord's homepage...

    SC Feyenoord

    Stadion Feijenoord

I can't remember much about the stadium other than the rather boisterous home fans.

I do remember that I couldn't find my match ticket for the game and could only find a used ticket for a game against Ipswich Town, whom United had played a few weeks earlier. However I still somehow got into the stadium and managed to find my match ticket the next morning...once I had sobered up..."It was there all the time"

Come expecting a rough time, but then we did take the three points home with us!

    Feyenoord stadium: de Kuip

by Forze Updated Jul 18, 2003
Home of History at de Kuip

Every inhabitant is proud of its largest stadium: de Kuip. The local pride Feyenoord has played historical games in this stadium, which has about 50.000 seats. The most recent historical game is the UEFA Cup final against Borussia Dortmund in 2002 (which Feyenoord won). In the beginning of the ninetees the stadium was completely renovated for about 50 million euro. The result is this beautiful stadium which is one of the favourite stadiums of the UEFA. Please make sure you see a match when you are in Rotterdam.

You can also take a guided tour during the week. In 1,5 hours a guide will take you round all the most interesting sights. You can visit the Home of History, a place where Feyenoord and other football fans can have the time of their life examining the huge collection of cups, pennants, photos and other memorabilia. You will also find information about the pop concerts held here and the football matches of "Oranje", the Dutch national team. Entrance is €7,50.
